First it was Clubhouse, then it was Twitter Spaces, and now it’s Spotify that didn’t want to be left out of this new trend of audio rooms. The service is launched Greenroom, its own application in which you can set up audio-only meetings between several people.
The usual audio rooms, but with the possibility of recording them in podcast format
The operation of these audio rooms is the same as in the Twitter Spaces and Clubhouse rooms, but with an interesting addition: the organizers of each room will be able to record and download them in podcast format. In this way, the rooms will not be ephemeral and can be made available to anyone who could not attend live.
That too leads to another benefit: monetization. A podcast can be monetized with referrals, or by converting the content into premium now that Apple has launched this modality in the podcasting market. From The Verge, they already know that Spotify is planning to make deals with the most popular room makers, and there’s always the possibility of getting exclusive content from famous creators with just a swipe of the checkbook.
At the moment, we can download Greenroom for free from the App Store. The app is called Locker Room because Spotify started from it after acquiring the company that created it, but we can sign up for it using our Spotify account. We should see this service consolidate with larger announcements throughout this summer.
