Spotify subscription podcast platform will charge 5% commission from year two

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, the Swedish company officially presented its subscription platform podcast, a platform that differs greatly from the functioning of podcast subscriptions that Apple introduced last week, partially confirming the information put forward by this medium.

From the third year, Spotify will keep a 5% commission on all subscriptions. All content creators who want to monetize their content through Spotify must use the Anchor platf orm, a platform that Apple bought a few years ago for over $ 100 million.

The price that publishers can charge is $ 2.99, $ 4.99 or $ 7.99 per month. Although publishers use the Anchor platform to download and mark podcasts as “subscribers only,” podcasts will be available on Spotify with a lock.

To listen to it, users will need to visit the website of the program in question and subscribe, the only method available to be able to skip the 30% commission charged by Apple and Google

. At first it seems a bit cumbersome, but you have to expect all the content to be integrated in a much more comfortable and simple way for the users.

With this announcement, Spotify ensures attract a large number of content creatorsSince then, after the first two years, the Spotify service commission is 5%. With Apple Podcast, in the first year, Tim Cook’s company retains 30%, while from the second year it drops to 15%.

Initially, the Spotify podcast platform will be released exclusively in the United States to gradually expand to more countries.
