If Apple had its way, iPhones would be a strictly annual purchase: September arrives, the new models fall, everyone takes out their wallet. Instead, most customers upgrade their handset every two or three years, and many hang on longer than that. But ultimately, whether it is because your handset is starting to show its age or the new models become too tempting, you will start to think about abandoning the old phone and buying a new one.
Is it really the right decision? Here are three key factors to consider before splashing money on a new iPhone.
1. It's (probably) the bad time to buy
At the time of writing, it is in early June. The iPhone 17 will be launched in three and a half months, how the rest of the beach will get a price drop. Whatever model you are watching at the moment, you will probably take about $ 100 cheaper in September, and you will have a brand new set of phones from which to choose.
So you should wait, right? Probably. But the question is more complicated than that. When new phones come out, demand shoots, and it often means that it is even difficult to find a supplier with stock. It is also very unlikely that you will find a good deal in the month following the launch; The valid discounts begin to appear later in the cycle.
It is before we enter the prices and the possibility that Apple increases the prices at a given time. Purchase of panic is reckless for various reasons, but if you wanted to buy soon, it is worth keeping in mind all the potential factors.
You can see that this is a delicate company, so we have an in -depth item discussing the thorny question when is the best time to buy an iPhone. But the short answer is that it is probably not the best time.
2. Do you think you have chosen the right model? Spot
Open the iPhone comparison page on the Apple website and the table will be by default on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, 16 and 16th, all released in the last 12 months. These are the phones that Apple wants you to buy. But you will often find options of better value of older generations.
The iPhone 15 Pro of 2023, for example, is delivered with an A17 Pro Super-fast chip supports Apple Intelligence and has very few functional differences compared to the iPhone 16 Pro. However, assuming that you can find actions at this stage, it will cost you much less. And the iPhone 15, which starts from a very reasonable $ 699 and is always available in the Apple store and elsewhere, is a superb versatile.
The key is to unplug the part of your brain that sucks the new one and focus on what you need and what you can do. If you are determined to have an Apple intelligence, the iPhone 15 will not do the trick, but if you can take it or leave it, then buy the iPhone 16th, which sacrifices itself a lot to be ready to AI, would be extravagance. Decide your priorities: battery life, treatment power, camera, design, dimensions? Then concentrate your expenses on these areas and look for savings elsewhere. Our iPhone buying guide has in -depth advice.
And finally, do not ignore the substantial savings that can be made by buying renovated or second hand.

3. Your iPhone does not age, he just needs TLC
Frustrated that your iPhone is not the smooth speedster you remember of the launch day? Smartphones slow down as they age, but you might be surprised how long they can last without becoming a problem. Try these tips to rejuvenate your iPhone before recording it in the discharge.
Check (and potentially replace) the battery: One of the most obvious signs of the age of the smartphone is the reduction in battery performance, but this could be an illusion caused by changes in use: invoicing less often than before, running more demanding applications, spending more time on the screen every day. Check your iPhone's battery health for a scientific verdict; If this is the problem, you can replace the battery for much less than the whole phone.
Update iOS regularly: Bogs and behavioral particularities are calculated in smaller iOS updates, while the largest can contain optimizations so that your handset works more easily. If you have not updated your iPhone for a while, do it now and see if it helps. Update your applications regularly as well.
Free storage space: Iphones can slow down if they lack storage available; If your device is almost full, it is worth having a clear. You can manage this in the settings> General > iPhone storage.
Watch the temperature: It may seem strange, but iPhones are slower when they are too hot or too cold. Time could be the problem, not the age of your phone.
Turn off low power mode: This mode is ideal for stretching the life of the battery, but it does so by operating certain more slowly (or not at all) features. If the iPhone seems slow and this is activated, try to deactivate it.
Check if the iPhone is really the problem: The performance does not only depend on the equipment of your iPhone, and if the bottleneck is elsewhere that the upgrade would be a waste of money. If the internet performance is slow, check your Wi-Fi. If an application seems particularly slow, try to run it on a friend's device to see if the problem remains. You must be absolutely certain that the iPhone is the problem.
Do not make an expensive error
Iphones are very expensive and it is important to make sure that you will get total value for your money. Do you need a new iPhone, or do you just want one? Your wallet (and the environment) will not forgive you for upgrade before it is really necessary.
If you are sure, however, the only question is to know where to get the lowest price. And for that, we recommend a visit to our best iPhone deals. Good shopping!
