Yesterday, from the morning, the date on which the large power outage started in Europe, I had to resort to an old mobile with an FM radio chip. Given the lack of communication, it was my method to be informed at any time, until PowerBank's hard. Of course, the big problem was not to find the mobile, not even the headphones (which also) Choose the application to set the stations.
Traditionally, a large part of the Android Market smartphones transported Radio FM, and with it, the manufacturer has placed an application to use it. However, with the loss of this hardware functionality, the software has also been lost. In this situation, there is only Two completely functional options for the Google system. If you are lucky.
The FM radio problem on Android
As I said earlier, a smartphone with FM Radio brought an application in its Android software to take advantage of this feature. The manufacturer said it, and, There was practically the compatibility of the software: A minor characteristic for all, has not received the same care as many other functions.
My small FM radio station during the electricity failure
In the case of Roma, the free software community He designed some alternatives for these most adventurous users: the legendary Spiritfm which was part of Cyanogenmod was the most solid. Today, it is interrupted, it shows the lack of applications.
Now, what can you be expected on the software side if it is a detection functionality? Well, just what we have: A large absence of applications To use FM radio in compatible mobiles. Fortunately, in my specific case with the Little F1, I wore line and it has its own application for this purpose. It sometimes failed, and he also did not manage to connect automatically, but hey, at least it worked.
The other remedy, the manufacturers. And in counted cases: Xiaomi is one of the most committed marks with this characteristic. He also lost it, with a few exceptions like his Redmi Pad 8.7 tablet; Among the mobiles, the Redmi Note 10 was the last.
Samsung, on the other hand, has retained this characteristic in its galaxy at the Galaxy A51: of its flagship products, endured the Galaxy S7 2016. Others as Motorola also considered it a few years more than the others, with a compatible motorcycle G.
No mobile coverage and without electricity. But FM radio there continued to inform the second
The problem: Manufacturers' applications are only compatible with their own devices. In other words, although the FM radio has returned to Android, the implementation of the company's software would be necessary. It is striking given the large community of developers behind the Google operating system.
In short, despite being a lost characteristic, He had his hours of glory during the great breakdown of Europe. Of course, for the next one, the same should have a transistor with batteries nearby, because I do not know what time my old mobile will stop working or when the applications cease to do so.
