Apple still does not approve Spotify updates
The war between Apple and Spotify seems to have no end. The two big companies are locked in an eternal legal battle it lasts too long. Spotify wants to avoid commissions on the App Store. For its part, Apple does not approve application updates.
In fact, by the end of 2022, Apple had already rejected Spotify’s update three times and today continues to ignore all the music platform’s efforts to bypass App Store rules
The latest Spotify updates integrated information on subscription prices for your packages and links to the Spotify website.
Apple continues to ignore Spotify updates in the App Store
Despite all the regulations implemented by the European Commission, Apple still does not allow Spotify certain movements with its iPhone application. The European organization sanctioned Apple with a financial fine and ordered remove all bans which prevented music streaming apps from reporting pricing or including links to their websites.
After the release of iOS 17.4, alternative payment methods are now accepted in the App Store. But on one small condition, the Cupertino company managed to ensure that all applications including links to services are mandatory. pay a 27% commission
Therefore, if Spotify includes links in its app and a user uses them to subscribe to its services, Spotify would have to pay a commission of 27% of the price of that subscription to Apple. Of course, Spotify doesn’t want to pay Apple. So, on the part of the Apple company, they simply ignore updates to the music service.
Spotify’s latest update includes minimal pricing details and a mention allowing users to purchase services through the platform’s official website. But it does not contain links.
Apple responded to Spotify via the App Store:
“Apple has created a music streaming license for iOS and iPadOS. This license allows apps to add buttons, external links, and other calls to action to direct their customers to a purchasing mechanism or site Web. You must agree to these terms before adding these features to your application.”
Of course, as soon as Spotify agrees to these terms, it will be legally obliged to pay commissions to the App Store. So the war continues.
