A few days ago we received information that Apple was preparing a new minor update, iOS 18.2.1 would be released on iPhone before the arrival of iOS 18.3. In this case, the source reported detecting iPhone models with this software version while browsing its website.
But now, There is a second source that confirms the existence of iOS 18.2.1. An anonymous social media account with a proven track record of sharing iOS-related information has revealed the build number of the upcoming software update: 22C161. Data that is difficult to obtain if this version is not installed on a device.
When this anonymous account publishes the build number of an upcoming version of iOS, the update is usually released in less than a week. However, due to the holiday season, the release of iOS 18.2.1 may be delayed. Not much is known about this account, which usually tries to maintain its anonymity, but its previous predictions were true.
What we will see in iOS 18.2.1
This anonymous account has not shared information on possible new features that will arrive with iOS 18.2.1. Although iOS 18.2.1 expected to be a minor update that fixes bugs and addresses security vulnerabilities. An intermediate update between iOS 18.2 and iOS 18.3.
In a few days we could have a new iOS 18 update
This is generally a common strategy within Apple. Major updates are released approximately every two months. And in between we have a minor update to fix bugs. It already happened with iOS 18.0.1 and with iOS 18.1.1, which arrived 4 weeks later of the main update.
These types of updates aren't as striking as others that introduce new features, but the truth is that They usually fix a large number of security errors which could potentially be exploited to try to access our data. It is therefore always important to update them as soon as they are released on the market.
Although They also generally correct operating errorswe didn't find anything serious in iOS 18.2. When the main reason is an error affecting the operation or battery of the iPhone, this update is usually released quite quickly.
If everything continues as usual, we should see iOS 18.2.1 in the next week. Remember that iOS 18.3 should be released at the end of January or beginning of February. Although it is true that at the moment many Apple employees are on vacation, which delays the development of new software updates.
