The Vision Pro have been a game changer since Apple introduced them two weeks ago at WWDC and they will be even more so when they go on sale in early 2024 according to official confirmation from Apple. Now analyst Ming-Chi Kuo talks about the plans Apple had with the iPhone 15 to better integrate it with the Vision Pro and that would be with a new Ultra Wide Band chip.
In one of his latest tweets, Kuo details that Apple will “aggressively upgrade the hardware specs” (literally translating) of the iPhone as part of its effort to build an (even more) competitive ecosystem around Vision Pro. “The ecosystem is one of the key success factors for Vision Pro, including integration with other Apple hardware products, and the main associated hardware specifications are Wi-Fi and ultra-wideband“, explained Kuo.
It seems that the first step in this process will be to update the ultra wideband chip of iPhone 15
Apple’s U1 chip debuted in the iPhone 11, and it has been included in every iPhone model since. The U1 chip is also present in Apple’s AirTag item tracker, Apple Watch Series 6 and newer, HomePod mini, HomePod 2nd generation, and the latest generation AirPods Pro charging case.
Apple uses the U1 chip for various functions, such as Find My, Handoff, Precision Finding and AirDrop, among others. Kuo believes that an updated version of the U1 chip will improve the performance of these functions and will also play a key role in the integration between Vision Pro and other Apple products.
