By working on my iPhone 16th journal (stay listening to igamesnews for that!) I came across something strange. Let me explain.
I published a grumpy article Monday quoting the lack of Magsafe support as the most boring thing about the new Apple iPhone 16th. Having lived and examined large segments of four consecutive iPhones of iPhone with a Magsafe support, I do not savor the prospect of returning to the wireless charge depending on the absolute precision of the placement.
But then, I took my iPhone 16th out of its case to get photos with my old Magsafe load washer for illustrative purposes (showing that it can charge from these accessories, but I will not have this practical attachment) and I made a surprising discovery: the magnets inside the charger attach to the iPhone 16th. It is a weak connection, but it is there.
To make it work, you must first of all your iPhone 16th do not have any cases (unless it is a Magsafe). I tried it with one of Apple's silicone cases and the effect has disappeared. Then you have to place the phone on or around the ideal load point and you should hear a little snap (you can hear it in the video below). Lift the phone (gently!) And you should see that the washer remains attached.
But I do not recommend doing much else, because the connection is trembling and it stands out frequently if you move the 16th too quickly or turn it too much. You do not want to test resistance to the fall of the iPhone, especially when you are not careful, so be careful. I would certainly not recommend using the iPhone 16 with a car support or a bedside table, because it will surely fall at a critical time. (And to be fair, nowhere Apple claims that the 16th is compatible with such accessories.) But at the very least, it will be a confirmation that the load cable is in the right place on a desk or table.
I contacted Apple to ask if this behavior is expected or simply a strange bonus feature, and will publish its answer if and when I receive one.
Of course, there are limits to the usefulness of this discovery. Even if he seems to have a low magnetic attraction for Magsafe accessories, the 16th still does not support the Magsafe load standard, so you are not going to qualify for higher maximum speeds. And the fact that you had to go without box to make it work is a real lower if, like me, you believe in the protection of expensive devices.
Nevertheless, if you are one of these reckless non-casers, it could be a little comfort when you first notice the 16th slowly firing in the right place of charge.
