If there is a famous keyboard in the Android ecosystem, it’s Gboard, both because it comes pre-installed on many phones and because it has over 500 million downloads. Among its strengths, the ease of writing on it and the number of useful functions it includes. But while the feature was covered in detail in the app, there was still one outstanding issue: undoing errors. Or what is the same, the ability to redo what was written after making a mistake when deleting
As echoed by the Telegram channel Rboard Themes (aiming to customize Gboard with root to enable the latest new features and themes), the latest Gboard beta includes a hidden feature that will allow you to restore deleted text via an undo button, obviously, if it is a function present in the final version for all audiences. At the moment the feature is not available in the latest beta, but users have made it work by activating a flag.
Powerful (but hidden) undo button appears on Gboard
Deleted text undo is a classic among physical keyboards, but not all keyboard apps include it. Among the lucky ones is Typewise, or Samsung’s default keyboard app, which uses swipes to restore text. In the case of an implementation on Gboard, the cancel button would not be displayed by default in such an immediate and intuitive waybut as you can see in the photo, to access it you would have to enter a menu.
However, there will still be the option to configure it among Gboard’s quick actions, so that it stays docked to the top of the keyboard. The journalist specializing in Android Mishaal Rahman a si lo ha testadoalso noting that the future undo button will contain a large number of deleted words (In his tests, he managed to restore three paragraphs at a time).
When will the undo button reach the general public? A date is unknown, but given that this is a historic request, we expect it to be a reality from Gboard in the near future.
