The truth is, I don’t like switching spheres much on my Apple Watch. I use the Metropolitana since I bought my Series 8, and I do not plan to change in the short term. This, yes, there is one that i always have in the room because I love. I don’t use it very often, but it’s there just in case. I speak of the solar sphere.
I personally think it’s a masterpiece. It gives us a lot of information without being overwhelming, and visually it’s stunning. It challenges the conception that we all have of this traditional watch that only tells us the time, but at the same time it breaks with the myth that connected watches are only used to count our minutes of exercise. I would dare to say that it is halfway between the two concepts, and at the same time between none
This sphere shines with its own light
One of its main functions is to let us know when the sun will rise and when it will set each day. It is very useful for us to know exactly until what time we will have natural light and be able to plan accordingly. In my specific case, I try to go for a run towards the end of the day, and I have used this function on some occasions to see until what time it will be sunny and from there decide when to go out for that I have time before staying in the dark.
Everything I’m talking about is known as “twilight”. It has nothing to do with vampires, I promise, but with the different positions that the sun has at each moment of the day. There are several types, although the most “known” are the civil, nautical and astronomical twilights.
The civil occurs when the sun is six degrees below the horizon, and disregarding light pollution, one could theoretically observe first magnitude stars as well as planets. Nautical occurs when the sun is 12 degrees below the horizon, first and second magnitude nautical stars can be seen with some ease. Finally, astronomy occurs when the sun is 18 degrees below the horizon and allows sixth magnitude stars to be seen with the naked eye, again, regardless of light pollution
The solar sphere not only shows us what I’m talking about, it represents them perfectly. Indeed, by turning the digital crown, you will notice a vibration. The grace is that when we reach these points, we will realize it. The sphere itself will change along the way, showing more or less daylight depending on the position of the sun. it’s too well thought out. Increase the designer’s salary.
In watchOS 10, pressing the crown that rotates with the sphere will take us directly to the Weather application, by the way has undergone an incredible and much needed overhaul. The sphere itself hasn’t changed, but it doesn’t have to. It’s wonderful no matter where you look at it. There are many that Apple offers, but this is definitely one of my favorites.
