Having a slow WiFi connection at home is starting to be a real problem for millions of Spanish households. All due to the increase in connected devices including mobile phones, tablets, smart TVs and smart home devices such as refrigerators, cameras or sensors. Many users try to solve this problem by saying goodbye to WiFi, although in many cases this is not a real option.

For this reason, more and more people are installing mesh WiFi at home. These networks consist of several routers, usually two or three, installed throughout the house. These devices are connected to each other and create a mesh network that covers the entire space of the house, regardless of the size or presence of walls.

Today, Acer revealed its new mesh router, and it’s the brand’s best yet. His name is Acer Wave 7, and as its name suggests, it makes the jump to the new WiFi 7 standard already present in some smartphones and devices to offer a better quality network. In fact, compared to WiFi 6, speed improvements exist, but they are not revolutionary; since the priority when designing the new standard was to improve the coverage and number of connected devices.

This is not to say that this new router is “slow”, far from it. The Wave 7 is capable of reaching transfer speeds up to 6400 Mbps, it is therefore perfectly capable of broadcasting high definition video files; provided both devices are WiFi 7, of course. To provide compatibility with all of our devices, the Wave 7 leaves the factory with two different configurations: a combination of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (WiFi 6), or a combination of 2.4 GHz and 6 GHz (WiFi 7). ). This way we can choose the one that best suits the devices we use and always obtain the best possible performance.

To this it must be added that the Wave 7 supports the 320 MHz channel and Multi-Link Operations (MLO) technology, which allows devices to receive and transmit data simultaneously through the two activated frequencies. On paper, this not only increases performance, but minimizes latency and reduces interference, which is especially important in online gaming.

Of course, being a mesh router, the Wave 7 allows the connection of other routers to extend the network, creating WiFi coverage; but it also has physical connections, with three Gigabit Ethernet ports with WAN/LAN capability.

The Acer Wave 7 will be available in Europe from July starting at 119 dollars for one unit. It will also be sold in packs of two units (199 dollars) and three units (299 dollars).
