On August 11, a new Samsung Unpacked took place. As usual, the Korean company takes advantage of these events to promote its most innovative products. In this case, there were two main lines: their smartwatches and foldable phones. And in both cases, they have proven they have great cards to play.
On the telephone side, we have known the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3. Two devices that keep Samsung at the forefront of this market, while reaching a wider audience with slightly lower prices. However, as we mentioned, not everything was about phones.
Samsung also took advantage of the event to publicize el Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. This new smartwatch is a milestone for Samsung itself and Google. After all, this is the first to offer WearOS 3, a completely redesigned version of the watch system that combines the best of Android and Tizen.
Along with the operating system, which also has a customization layer created by Samsung, the Galaxy Watch 4 also includes some very new features. For example, it is able to analyze the composition of our body
The problem with the new watch is that the new Google and Samsung platform appear to have limited compatibility. As reported by ArsTechnica, these watches requires a phone with Android 6 or higher. Even when the WearOS app is still available on the App Store.
For the time being, not clear if this will change anytime soon. Unlike Apple with the Apple Watch, neither Google nor Samsung have limited the compatibility of their smartwatch platforms to Android until now, and in both cases it was possible to use smartwatches with iOS. We will have to wait to see if it will be final or not.
