Apple has released the second beta version of the Sonoma 14.5 update to developers and the public. Beta 2 arrives two weeks after the release of the first beta. The full version will probably arrive for all users in late April or early May.

macOS 14.5: New features
Since there are no macOS 14 features already announced yet, it’s not clear what, if anything, is new in the 14.5 update. The latest update brought new emojis along with other undisclosed bug fixes and security upgrades. Additionally, Apple’s developer site does not list any release notes for the update. We will update this section if new features are discovered.
macOS 14.5: bug fixes and security updates
The macOS Sonoma 14.4 update arrived with a series of bugs that were already fixed in a 14.4.1 update. Apple doesn’t release any security fixes until the latest version is made public, but there will certainly be several significant updates.
macOS 14.5: How to install the update
To install the beta on your Mac as a developer, first create a developer account. Once registered, follow these instructions:
- Go to System Settings on your Mac.
- Go to General tab, then Software update.
- You should see two options: Automatic updates And Beta updates. Click the “I” symbol next to Beta Updates.
- You can now enable beta updates (if they weren’t already).
- Choose the macOS 14.5 beta.
- If your developer account is linked to an Apple ID other than your usual ID, you can change it here.
- Click Done.
- Your Mac will now check for updates and display the latest Sonoma Developer Beta as an upgrade. Click Upgrade Now.
