Microsoft has found the golden goose with ChatGPT, and more specifically with its investment in OpenAI which allows it to use generative AI technology in its products. The end result of this bet is called Copilot, an AI capable of generating both text and images and which is integrated into absolutely all Microsoft programs and services, from Word to the Edge browser to the Bing search engine. .
Its operating system is no exception, and with the big Windows 11 update last September, Copilot for Windows was launched, an AI always accessible from a side panel; Unfortunately, Spanish Windows users were surprised that this feature was not available in their country.
Although Microsoft has not yet given the official reason why Copilot for Windows is not available in the European Union, everything indicates that it is an attempt to avoid getting into trouble with the laws European standards on confidentiality and competitiveness. However, this does not mean that we have no options to use AI on our computer, and in fact, there is a secret trick to activate Copilot on Windows in Europe.
Copilot for Windows in Europe
It’s actually very simple. Contrary to what one might think, Microsoft has not removed Copilot from computers in Europe, and the latest system update has already installed all the necessary files to run it through the Edge browser; The only thing the company did was eliminate the methods of accessing the program, so that the user could not run it. So just create a Copilot connection using Edge, and it will work perfectly.
To do this, we must first make sure that Windows 11 is updated, by opening Windows Update and clicking on “Check for updates”. Once this is done, we must open File Explorer and enter the desktop on the left side panel.
In this folder, right-click with the mouse in a free space and click on “New” and “Shortcut”.
A window will open asking us to enter the location of the item. In the text box we need to paste the following (without the quotes): “microsoft-edge://?ux=copilot&tcp=1&source=taskbar”. Then we click next and give it the name we want, like “Copilot”.
That’s it. The only thing we have to do when we want to use Copilot on Windows is to double-click on the icon we created, and the side panel with Artificial Intelligence will open automatically. It will be entirely in Spanish and will work exactly as it should, including AI image generation.
