With many new products expected this spring, we’ve been eagerly waiting for Apple to send out invitations for its spring event in early March. However, with the new MacBook Air M3 arriving on Monday morning, it looks like there won’t be one after all.
Apple has a hot and cold relationship with spring events. We got one in 2022 when Apple unveiled the Mac Studio and iPhone SE 3, and in 2021 with the iMac M1 and AirTags. But in 2023, Apple launched the MacBook Pro and Mac mini M2, as well as the 2nd generation HomePod, without event.
But this year appears to be an “active” year with several major products that need to be upgraded. After more than 12 months without a single iPad release, Apple reportedly has several ready to go, with OLED iPad Pros and a larger 12.9-inch iPad Air reportedly in production. And the inevitable MacBook Air M3s will probably arrive sooner rather than later.
As Mark Gurman first reported in his latest Power On newsletter, Apple will skip the event this spring and instead launch its new lineup via a press release. The timing of the announcements is somewhat unclear: Gurman says he expects the new products to arrive in late March or early April, while MacRumors reports that something new could arrive as soon as this week – and that’s indeed what it will be. ‘is produced in the form of the MacBook Air M3. . With several additional updates expected this month, Apple appears to be spreading out launches over a series of days rather than dropping everything at once as an event.
Since there certainly won’t be an event in the spring, Apple’s first event of the year will likely be WWDC in June, where it will showcase the latest versions of iOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS, as well as some releases possible hardware, including the M3 Ultra chip for Mac Studio and Mac Pro.
