There are fewer and fewer things left so desired Apple’s revolution in artificial intelligence. And then it can be more or less deep, but even the company itself does not hide its intentions that iOS 18 and the rest of the systems bring powerful changes in this area.
In Mark Gurman’s latest newsletter, the Bloomberg journalist answers readers’ questions on this subject and moves forward in which applications will Apple add artificial intelligence. Because yes, Siri should undergo big changes with iOS 18, but also that certain native applications will join it, causing an unprecedented change in them.
The four big changes in AI in native apps
Although Gurman didn’t get too specific about what new features native AI apps will receive, we can guess what their potential changes are based on what some other apps already do, as well as previous known leaks.
The first example is the “Notes” app. The native iPhone is not characterized by being the most complete, even if it is increasingly autonomous. In a known leak a few weeks ago, we learned of the integration of a type of calculator in this applicati on, which could be capable of solving mathematical operations that we write or draw in a note.
However, AI should also have its effect with something much deeper and more well-known, such as a text or template generator. This is something we already see in many notes apps and could lead to requests such as creating a template to write down monthly expenses, planning a trip or even writing a complete text based on some instructions we have given previously.
Something similar would be found in native “Mail” application. This is an application that has been crying out for change for years and could now incorporate a more than substantial improvement thanks to functions such as summarizing long emails, issuing automatic replies and even translating them into different languages.
The AI of the ‘Photos’ application aims to focus on photo editing, something in which Apple has already presented several models
Changes are also planned in the ‘Photos’ application. There’s already a lot of AI here with more invisible elements like recognizing people’s and animals’ faces or organizing memories, but it could go further with editing elements. An example to draw inspiration from is the Google Photos editor, which supports different possibilities such as a magic eraser to remove unwanted objects or people from a photo.
Although if there is something that makes us dream in this sense, it is what we see in MGIE, an AI created precisely by Apple in collaboration with a university and which allows you to automatically edit a photo with a simple fast. For example, if he is asked to make a photo much brighter, he knows that he needs to increase the contrast and he does so. This would also be used to add elements to a photo, which is explained very well with the classic example of a photograph of a pizza, asking the AI to make it healthier and add pepper toppings , tomatoes and arugula.
For the ‘Fitness’ app, known until recently as “Activity”, changes are also expected with AI. It is also a mystery what Apple will do here, but the imagination is free and given the sufficiency of the AI that we know, it is predictable to imagine all types of integrations, to intelligently propose exercises based about our goals and our state of health. , as well as greater personalization of these.
In any case, we will dispel doubts only on June 10. This day begins WWDC 2024, during which iOS 18 will be presented. And courtesy of WWDC 2023 and the stunning Vision Pro presentation we saw there, this year aims to be. one of the most important conferences in Apple history. At least in recent history.
