Microsoft’s web browser in its Android version continues to improve. Recently, Microsoft’s artificial intelligence Copilot was updated with more features, including the ability to analyze and generate images directly in the Android version. NOW, mobile browser prepares to take another big step.
And Edge for Android will have support for extensions, in the same way as its desktop version. The Microsoft browser will thus join Firefox with support for extensions in its mobile version, which even Chrome does not currently offer.
Microsoft Edge will also overtake Chrome by including extensions in its Android version
Extension support in Edge for Android was discovered by a user X (Twitter) known as @Leopeva64
Currently support for extensions is only available.Available for the development version of Edge for Androidespecially for Edge Canary, available on the Google Play Store.
When installing the browser, it is possible to activate support for extensions from a secret menu by following the steps below:
- Access Edge Canary (from version 123)
- In the address bar, type edge://flags and press “Go”
- In the search bar, type “Extension cords» and activate the option “Android extension»
- Restart the browser to apply the changes
It’s important to keep two things in mind: first, this and all options available in the edge://flags menu are experimental features that may affect browser operation (Edge Canary itself is a development version, so its operation is not stable).
Second, even if extension support is enabled from the experimental features menu, This does not mean that the extensions are already available for everyone. In my case, by enabling the option, I was unable to access extensions, while user @Leopeva64 had access to a new button for extensions in the Edge settings menu, which does not appear in my browser.
From this button you can access the list of available extensions, which currently include uBlock Origin, Dark Reader and Global Speed.
News of this Edge development release should reach all users in March. However, it is not yet confirmed whether the extensions will debut in the Android browser in the same month, although the presence of these advancements in the Canary version ensures that they will be available as soon as possible. Firefox recently released support for over 400 extensions in its Android version. Will Chrome join this trend?
