The phone rings and I don’t recognize the number. But no matter: I press the small Google Assistant icon and the company’s machinery begins to answer the call for me. I know the assistant’s voice is ringing in the telemarketer’s earpiece, I see the real-time transcript when the assistant asks you what you’re calling. “Fiber offer,” I read on the screen. “I’ll send you a message,” I assume Google Assistant tells him to get it off his back. All without having to pick up the phone and just press a few buttons, it was the future.
The Google phone has a call filtering system that significantly limits phone spam. Additionally, Google has introduced “Call Filter”, a voice recognition system that can respond to any communication without the user speaking on the phone at any time. That’s wonderful.
Google Assistant doesn’t kill spam, it eliminates (almost) all annoyances
I can’t say that the phone spam has ended with my Google Pixel 6 and the phone app call filter, I have to say: despite the fact that the number of communications is greatly reduced, Calls that cannot be detected always go through. And getting the assistant to talk to these people seems like the invention of the century.
When I saw the Google Duplex demo at Google I/O 2018, I was impressed: the company had managed to make its assistant behave almost like a person; working independently and autonomously not only when it came to understanding what was being said during the call, but also when it was their turn to respond. And always without losing sight of its mission: to obtain a reservation for the user.
The operational call filter in Europe is somewhat related to duplex, but it is much more limited. The assistant can answer the call and transcribe the conversation on the screen, but it is the user who must guide the conversation, still without picking up the handset. For this, the wizard offers small buttons on the screen such as “It is urgent?“, “More information“, “call me back“oh”Wrong numberBy clicking on it, the operator dictates what the user wants. And, once you don’t want to dictate anything more, Google Assistant can hang up the call, saying goodbye with a dry “Goodbye”.
Call Filter does not send data to Google: all communications, responses and transcriptions are done on the Google Pixel and without the need for an internet connection
It is true that we must continue to be attentive to the call. Even so, Not having to talk to telemarketers sounds good to me.. Because they don’t make me chat with machines when I call support? Now it’s my turn.
Perfect for those who hate talking on the phone. Like me
I know I’m the personalized paradox of smartphone use: I love this device, I’ve bought dozens of them and tested hundreds, I love configuring them, getting the most out of them with apps, I spend hours with each new test to leave each model as I like it. And yet, I hate talking on the phone
It’s not that I avoid making calls since, because of my job, I have to be on the phone almost daily. However, I could do anything not to pick up the receiver, dial a number and fight to speak to an operator and explain my problems. In fact, I’ve gone months without canceling services just because the only way to cancel them was to phone. Google Assistant, I wish you could cancel the gym for me.
Spam call filter removed sales calls on my Pixel 6. Plus, now I screen all calls, it’s wonderful. I don’t know the phone number displayed on the screen? Well, let Google Assistant answer it, I’ll see transcribed what it wants. What if I’m not interested? The assistant will hang up and I’ll add the number to the blacklist. I already have a few.
