It's been almost two years since adaptive audio came to AirPods. It came hand in hand with iOS 17 and has already become a essential functionality for many users. So much so that I personally recommend setting it up every time we use headphones.
This is essentially a smart feature that sound level adjustment that we listen to the circumstance in which we find ourselves. Its configuration is very simple, although we have already warned that not all AirPods models are compatible.
Which AirPods is this feature available on?
Unfortunately, not all AirPods models have this feature. In fact, it comes out negatively that even the AirPods Max don't have it, which is understandable considering they were released in 2020 well before Apple released this technology, although even its 2024 review doesn't have it. don't accept.
So, today only these two models have it:
It is important to focus on the AirPods 4, since the standard model does not have it, being reserved for the version with active noise cancellation.
What is it and how to enable adaptive audio
The adaptive audio mode of the aforementioned AirPods is achieved through capturing the ambient sound that it collects with its microphones, allowing it to automatically with level of volume and noise cancellation depending on the environment in which we find ourselves.
For example, if we are quietly at home in a simple room, the volume will be rather low and there will be virtually no noise cancellation. A very different case would be if we were in the middle of the hustle and bustle of an airport or similar.
To enable it, you need to open the iPhone/iPad Control Center with AirPods on, press and hold the volume icon, then Click on noise control options (the icon at the bottom left). There you can choose the “Adaptive” option.
In the same way we can also deactivate it. Although before that we also recommend customize this mode to your liking. To do this, simply follow these steps on an iPhone, iPad or Mac:
- Put the AirPods in your ears and close the case.
- Open “Settings” on your iPhone/iPad/Mac.
- Go to the 'Bluetooth' section and click on the icon I AirPods.
- Enter the “Adaptive Audio” section.
- Move the bar that seems to accept more or less noise.
