Almost a week after having my iPhone 16 Pro in my hands, I can assure you of one thing: It doesn’t heat up at all. And last year the iPhone 15 Pro had overheating issues, especially at launch, due to a still very premature version of iOS 17. The reality is that this was quickly fixed, but we still noticed (especially in summer) that the device was particularly sensitive to heat.
The new generation of iPhone 16 Pro brought surprises not only in its external design or cameras, but also in what’s under the hood. We first got a look at the new features of its little brother, the iPhone 16, and now we have the long-awaited teardown of the iPhone 16 Pro, which has revealed some secrets
Stainless steel battery and improved cooling: the change that makes the difference
The iPhone 16 Pro teardown, conducted by Rewa Technology, showed something that was already rumored: Apple has implemented a battery with a stainless steel case. This new design represents a major step forward in managing the heat generated by the iPhone itself. Unlike previous models, where the batteries had a casing made of a softer material, steel not only offers greater strength, but also helps to better dissipate the heat generated by the device.
Note that the metal case of the iPhone 16 Pro battery It is exclusive to this model and Max. It is not found in the iPhone 16. This can be due to two factors: the first, wanting to offer the iPhone Pro better cooling for the most demanding users. The second is that the iPhone 16 continues to keep aluminum as its main material, which dissipates heat better than titanium.
It is precisely with this material that Apple has made another modification to the chassis of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. There is a new graphite-coated aluminum substructure. This mineral is known for its good heat conduction capacity, which allows the iPhone to stay cool for longer. According to Apple, the iPhone 16 Pro is able to generate up to 20% less heat than the previous model.
There are also changes on the A18 chip motherboard
Another key aspect that was revealed during the teardown is the restructuring of the iPhone 16 Pro’s logic board. Apple has managed to reduce its size, allowing for a more efficient layout of components. This change in positions helps better internal ventilation. Additionally, the new design features a larger protective shell than the iPhone 15 Pro, adding an extra layer to dissipate heat.
With these improvements, added to the better battery and processor management brought by iOS 18, it seems that Apple has found the perfect distribution to provide energy without overheating the device. The iPad Pro M4 also debuted a new heat dissipation sheet located under the rear Apple logo, and the intention is to incorporate these changes to the rest of the products.
