Yes, I proposed to spend weekends without notifications or social networks. And no, just because I hate technology. On the contrary: I am super technological, I have all the complete Apple ecosystem (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch) and my professional and personal life has prospered thanks. But, Like everything in life, you must balance a little.
The trigger was to realize that my Apple Watch has constantly vibrated and that each notification put my body alert. As an autonomy with main work and three additional customers, plus a YouTube channel to manage, my iPhone Had become a constant boiler of messagesTasks and notifications. During the week, I couldn't do much because it's my job, but on weekends … Why continue?
This is where I said: “It is always worth connected. I really want to rest. “So I configured a personalized concentration mode. And after these weekends, it was one of the best decisions I made for my well … Although everything is not perfect.
The context: autonomous hyperconnected to need balance
I have always been very technological. My professional and personal life was possible thanks to technology. I met my online partner, my friends share my passion for Apple and I have jobs that I feel super proud. Clear things: technology gave me everything.
Fortunately, this is not an article in which I complain. I won't say “Oh, how bad the technology is.” In fact, I want to continue using it and I love it. But The problem was not the technology itself, but my relationship with notifications Constants I worked well during the week, but then I arrived on the weekend and I entered social networks, I saw something and I thought: “It would be good to do it on Monday.” It was as if my free time was an extension of the office.

I love technology, at no time did I want to get rid of it
The reality of the problem: the eyes that do not see, the heart that does not feel
What surprised me the most was to realize how every Vibration of Apple Watch has generated tension. It was not anxiety, but A kind of constant nerves. Add a lot of notifications throughout the day: family, friends, jobs … It was really overwhelming.

Time of use of a few weeks in April
My daily life is quite full of notifications. I have Whatsapp, Telegram, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, as well as all the work applications … and Although he sleeps wellYes throughout the day, I was with this tension to be “available” constantly.
But, if you can summarize in a sentence after my experience of the weekend without notifications or social networks, it is: “The eyes that do not see, the heart that does not feel.” There is no faster sentence. If I do not constantly see notifications, my body ceases to be alert permed.

And it is that one of the most popular psychologists who have become (Marian Rojas) clearly shows that our brain must have a more contemplative life. And it is this excess of stimuli, constant multitasking and Compulsive information consumption generates “Dopamine poisoning” in the brain. This leads to a feeling of emptiness, dissatisfaction and even greater vulnerability to pain.
“Happiness is in this gift, in which I say for a moment: I will appreciate it,” he said in one of his books. We have to focus on the importance of looking at what surrounds us With new eyes and without the constant mediation of screens or worries. And after trying my first weekend like this, I highlight each of the words.
My solution: personalized concentration mode
I developed a concentration mode with these specific characteristics:
What remains active:
- Telephone calls (for real emergencies)
- Messaging applications (but without notifications)
What I completely deactivated:
- Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter has disappeared from the home screen
- Work applications
The simple fact of not having social networks on the home screen, you do not know what it helps not get. I did not blocked them, but not having them visible is incredible. You can be more present and enjoy every minute, time and day of the weekend.
The step by step to create my weekend concentration mode
If you want to log out while being located, this is the mode of concentration that I use every weekend.
Access adjustments> Concentration mode and click on the + symbol to create a new one.

In the “SIMENCED notifications” section, enter “Applications” and only select those you want to allow. In my case, only phone.

Now we are going to create a special home screen. The trick is to create a screen only with the applications you will need during the weekend. To do this, go to the application library (the last page right) and drag the applications you want to have on this screen. Important: doing the library is the only way to “duplicate” icons without removing them from other screens.

Back to adjustments> concentration mode and enter the way you just created. Click on “Customize the screens” and select only the home screen you have prepared.

Finally, configure the calendar. In my case, I had it Friday at 9:00 p.m. Friday. Until Monday at 7 a.m.

The results: this is the best decision for my well
Since I configured this, I have been working much more relaxed on weekends. Because yes, I still work, but without pressure. I also slept better without the feeling of getting up and looking at the iPhone for a simple curiosity. The data collected by my Apple Watch supports it. And above all: no more quality with mine. It's wonderful. Each letters.
- Better rest: Although I have already slept well, the quality has improved by not having this tension to be “available” or put an alarm to arrive everything.
- More real: Without the visual temptation of social networks, I devote real time to the things I love.
- Greater presence: Be more present at any time, without constant interruptions.
This tranquility and this mental freedom perfectly compensate for any message that takes a little more time to see. I can take advantage of it in many other places and moments, and this is worth gold for an autonomous who, we already know, never closes. Another of the techniques I tried during the week is to target the things I want to do the next day, in order to leave your head free when we fall asleep.

La Grande Barrière: Your own friends and family
There is a main obstacle: how to communicate it to people. People in general generally do not understand it and can even get angry. HOh friends to those who take hours (or days)And I know it's bad, but I literally go with the great time. The problem is not a message you answer, but these are people who may have more free time and start linear conversations. It's difficult, but I have a solution.
My message for my friends:
Hello, I have a lot of work for a few days. This weekend, I will be a little more disconnected. I will not have social networks or notifications. But you can write to me on Whatsapp, I will be happy to read you. Of course, the message will not come to me at the moment. If you need something very urgent, you can always call me.
For continuous use:
From now on, I'm going to spend the rest time on weekends. During the week, I have a lot of work volume and I want to devote them more to rest on weekends. I'm not going to have social networks, but you can write on WhatsApp. Of course, I will not have active notifications. If something emergency happens, you can always call me.
After sending these messages, No friend got angry. In fact, more than one congratulated me and was even interested in doing something similar.

Fewer notifications and more free time for walks and good music
I don't regret it
If you identify this experience, I strongly encourage you to try at least a weekend with this configuration. At least test a weekendI think you will be very happy like me. Now when Monday arrives, I am more rested, more creative, with more energy. This real rest period is noticeable in the quality of work all week. And above all, Do not “burn” in advance.
Now my Saturdays and my Sundays I like my iPhoneWalk with the watch and good music. I see movies with my partner at home and I change videos in the Mac. I did not leave the technology aside, but I said “the owner of my time is me.” And this feeling of mental tranquility perfectly provides these additional minutes (and hours) that you need to see a message.
You are independent or not, if you came here, it is becauseThe theme touches you with the first hand. So you encourage yourselfTry it. Maybe not with two whole days. If that gives you “something”, you can do a Saturday morning, a Sunday afternoon … and check how many things you can enjoy and, above all, how much you will rest.
