“Goodbye formatting to take our mobile to the technical service: this is how Android 14 repair mode works”
The deployment of the new version of Google’s OS, Android 14, continues from strength to strength. Manufacturers are working to integrate it into their devices and the Mountain View company has already released even the first major update.
In it, called Android 14 QPR1, a new function has been found that will be very useful when we take our mobile phone for repair. It is repair modea method to protect sensitive personal information, we explain how it is used.
This is the new Android 14 repair mode
As we read in 9to5Google, and we were able to verify from Xataka Android, Google deploys the aforementioned function on its devices, the Google Pixel. Now they have the opportunity to store our data securelysomething similar to what Samsung has already been offering since last year.
Although the Korean manufacturer called it “Maintenance Mode”, different from the name given by the search engine giant, it is essentially the same: it will hide private information from the user, so that when faced with a repair at the technical service, They cannot access our data. This way we will avoid resetting the phone to factory settings, and when it is returned to us, we will just have to deactivate it to leave everything as it was.
This feature was first observed last September, when Android 14 QPR1 It was in its first beta version. At the time we were not able to test it, but it is now operational after a global deployment. Repair mode allows, as they say, to prevent access to our data (while it is active), but it also does not require formatting the device.
What we will need is to have, at least, 2 GB free in the internal memory of our Pixel, otherwise we will not be able to activate it. On the other hand, we must have an unlocking method such as a PIN, code or pattern. To access the function, go to Settings > System > Repair mode.
Once there, all you have to do is press the “Enter repair mode” button to start the process that will hide all our information. After a reboot, which may take several minutes, we will not see any trace of personal data. It is worth mentioning that not all Google Pixels are compatible with the feature, being exclusive to the following models:
Now, when it’s our phone’s turn to take the SAT, we will not need to delete the data. In just a few minutes we will have hidden our files and information, and when we return, a few touches on the screen will be enough to return to normal.
