While Google Maps is by no means the only GPS navigator compatible with Android Auto (and if you ask me, it doesn’t seem like the best to me either), the fact that it’s the Android app by default gives it a privileged position in the car too. Or what is the same: that Google Maps is very popular on Android Auto.
Because the reality is that in addition to being the default browser, it is good and fulfills its role of guiding us on the road. Google Maps doesn’t usually fail, but it’s not without its problems. So, Google Maps may close in full use or not display the correct location on the map. Two fairly common Google Maps failures in Android Auto and which fortunately have a solution.
Main issues with Google Maps on Android Auto
An error that usually occurs is that Google Maps does not detect your location correctlyin which case this could be due to two reasons: that you are using a version with bugs (perhaps it is a beta version or a problematic official version) and that the GPS configuration of the mobile phone is not not correct.
It’s worth taking a look at how we configure Google Maps on our mobile, going through everything from the basics such as whether GPS is enabled to whether high precision location is enabled and that Never hurts to calibrate the app from time to time. So we will go to Settings and in ‘Location‘, we will see if the toggles of ‘Use location‘and in’Location Services‘, option ‘Improve location accuracy‘.
This last option combines the GPS signal with the mobile network or WiFi to best determine the exact position. It also doesn’t hurt to check that we have location permissions enabled in Google Maps and that we are not throttling the app with low power limitations.
But this failure could also be due to a problematic Google Maps beta (this has already happened several times, as reported by users on Reddit), which can cause the other major failure of Google Maps in Android Auto: the application closes.
In this case, it’s as simple as forget the beta versions and start using the final versions of Google Maps. How to do it? Go to the Google Play Store and locate Google Maps in the apps list. If you are in the beta program, this information will appear, along with the option to unsubscribe.
However, it may also be a final version but with bugs, in which case it is best to check for updates and install them as quickly as possible.
