If you are a customer of one of the operators Telefónica, Movistar and O2, please note that Switching from a physical SIM to an eSIM is now much more convenient after the implementation of the famous “eSIM Quick Transfer”. That is to say a quick transfer to the eSIM, which sums up very well what it is about.
In short, it is save time and money for the user who wants to upgrade to a digital SIM card without having to go through the traditional eSIM activation process which consisted of scanning a QR and, in most cases, paying for it as if it were a duplicate.
Here’s how to switch from a SIM to a Movistar and O2 eSIM on iOS
The Movistar or O2 rate you have subscribed to does not matter. Any customer of these operators can switch to an eSIM. The idea, as we said in the introduction, is to not have to ask for it and wait for the QR code to be sent to us to configure the eSIM and not have to go to a Movistar store.
To do this, you must have a iPhone compatible with eSIMwhich are basically everyone released from 2018 to today:
- iPhoneX
- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone XR
- iPhone11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2nd generation – 2020)
- iPhone12
- iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone13
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
- iPhone SE (3rd generation – 2022)
- iPhone14
- iPhone 14 Plus
- iPhone 14 Pro
- iPhone 14 Pro Max
- iPhone15
- iPhone 15 Plus
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
If you have an iPhone that accepts this type of card, the procedure to follow to transfer it to the eSIM is the next:
- Open “Settings” on the iPhone.
- Enter the “Mobile Data” section.
- Tap “Convert to eSIM”.
- Verify that the phone number that appears on the screen is the one you want to convert to eSIM and tap “Convert to eSIM” again to confirm.
Once done, the conversion process will begin and you will receive a notification once completed. With that you can remove the physical SIM card from iPhone
As our colleagues from Xataka Móvil point out, Telefónica operators are the first to introduce this eSIM transfer process on the iPhone. It’s unclear if other companies will do this soon, but hopefully this will open the door for them to get on board. In addition, knowing that in the United States the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 no longer support physical SIM and it is predictable that sooner or later this will also happen with future mobile phones in USA, which if things continue like this, would not be cheap.
