Android 11, also known as Android R, is ahead of us for the year 2020. If years ago the first Android beta came in mid-March, this time it was released before the end of February. Google is upgrading the first beta date, though six will stay. Of course, the calendar varies a bit from last year.
There are still six species in the center as well the final version is expected for the third quarter of 2020, as in previous years, despite adjusting for betas and developer previews and how they are distributed within six / seven months from here to launch.
Android 11 Calendar
While in previous events Google has called all previous models a "beta", in this case there is a clear difference between developer previews and Betas as such. There is, in fact, a correction from last year: there is three developer previews and three bet, while with Android Q there was a developer preview and two bets. Here is the calendar:
Calendar itself launches today with the launch of Android 11 and a developer preview, whose main purpose is to collect suggestions and complaints from developers about the evolved APIs. All these versions and their dates:
-
Developer preview 1 (February). The first type focuses on getting ideas and suggestions from the developer. Includes changes to functionality, API and usability.
-
Developer preview 2 (March). Additional changes and new features have been added, changes to APIs and usability.
-
Desktop Preview 3 (April). Changes focused on improving stability and performance, preparing the ground for the first beta version of end users.
-
Beta 1 (May). The first type of OTA for end users, which will be sent to subscribers of the Android beta program.
-
Beta 2 (June). Second is a beta with high end APIs and robustness. The publishing of compatible apps on Google Play is starting.
-
Beta 3 (early third quarter). The first type of person that is best selected for development, SDK and libraries.
-
The last type (late third quarter). The last version of Android 11 published in AOSP.
In recent years, Google has released the final version of Android at the end of Android or early September, so history is expected to be repeated this year. Calendar this year one month advanced, so it remains to be seen if the final version will be upgraded again, throughout the third. This is a comparison from last year:
