I wouldn’t dare change Google Maps for anything in the world. Since I bought my first Android phone, ten years ago, I’ve been using the pre-installed maps and navigation service. During this time, it has gained new functions, some more hidden that become tricks for make the most of it: allows you to locate a phone, see places in augmented reality with Lens, and its Immersive View is simply awesome.
Just like the shortcut that allows you to take any route to the home screen of our Android mobile. I’m going to use it on vacation, although it’s more useful if you have to repeat the same movement every day and you haven’t internalized it yet. Let me explain How to get it.
An icon for your most repeated routes
Do you take the same route every day and are tired of having to access the Google Maps app to plot it? Don’t worry, there is a little tip that we can use for this purpose. Ok, it is not useful if it is a known route, but it will be useful for the first moments when we get to know a new place on the globe.
In addition, it is very simple to bring it as an icon on the home screen, a simple press on it will take us directly to the route, and in a few seconds we will have started navigation. Without further ado, I explain how to do it:
- Open the Google Maps app on your Android mobile.
- Tap the “Get Directions” button located at the bottom right of the screen.
- Add the start and destination. If you want to add additional stopsjust tap the three dots and then tap “Add Stop”. Add as many as you need.
- Once the route is completed, we must press “Done” to save it.
- And here’s the most important thing: display the options on the button with the three dots that you used previously and click on “Add route to home screen”.
Ready, you will see how the icon has appeared on the home screen, like any other application, you can move it as you like, put it in a folder, or even link it to the dock. When you touch, you access Maps with the route as is, giving us the possibility to share it with our contacts, although the best is that automatically starts navigationspeeding up the keys on the screen when we are in the car.
Did you know this trick? There is also another way explained by my partner in this article on the features of Google Maps. It consists of establishing, within Maps, our home or work. With these locations marked, a long press The Maps icon will open shortcuts to navigate to those parts. Not a bad alternative.
