If you’re an Apple enthusiast, you already know that an essential step is getting to work for the company. This is something fans like Mexican Arturo Delgado have always said. And this is what Sam got, a Scottish citizen He became an employee at the Glasgow Apple Store in 2012. He worked there and at another Apple Store in Canada for a year, after which he pursued other professional activities.
So far, so good. Someone who worked at an Apple Store for a while is not at all unusual. But Sam has one particularity: his name. Because yes, his name is Sam… but his last name is Sung. Sam Sung. Does this sound familiar?
A $2,600 business card
Picture the recruiter’s face: someone named Sam Sung wanting to work at Apple. Perhaps the funniest CV that could have passed through the company’s human resources departments. Beyond the pleasure of the anecdote, Sam was hired. And a year after he left, he had an idea.
What if he tried his luck by auctioning off the business card from his time at Apple, which included the logo and name “Sam Sung”? He encouraged this in 2014 and The bidding was $2,600.. Even then, he did a good thing, because Sam donated the money to the Make a Wish charity dedicated to providing gifts to seriously ill children.
If it worked with a card, maybe you could put more stuff up for auction
The story doesn’t end there. Eight years later, in 2022, Sam wanted to up the ante. If the business card from your time at Apple was worth $2,600, what other items could you get? Neither small nor lazy, Sam framed his employee t-shirt, adding his badge ID and this business card. He signed the resulting painting and put it up for auction.
The final bid amount isn’t detailed (it started at around $500), but Sam donated all the money to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside Women’s Center. Apple is in fact one of the companies that contribute the most donations in the world, so this initiative even coincides with the brand’s own philosophy.
But there is a somewhat sad ending to this story: Sam changed his name to Sam Struan.. He has a website where we can see that he is dedicated to advising people looking for a job, improving their CV and their strategies for speaking with recruiters. You can also hire him to stand between you and your company and negotiate an increase in your salary.
