One of the main new features of Android 15 is that we will be able to free up storage space by being able to archive applications that we do not use regularly and eliminate temporary files.

Being able to archive an application that we don't normally use allows us to free up space without having to reinstall it and thus we avoid configuring it from scratch. Although this option is something that manufacturers will decide for themselves whether or not they want to implement in their versions of the operating system. Fortunately, Samsung seems to have decided to implement it in its Galaxy.

We have already seen that Samsung launched its One UI 7 beta a few days ago and we were able to see a preview of what will soon arrive in the stable version of its customization layer. Some of these new features we've seen are Samsung Exclusives but others, like app archiving, come from the open source version of Android that Samsung based its software on.

Now any archived app, when clicked, will display a message asking the user whether or not they want to restore the app from the app store. But there is a trick here.

Before enabling this app archiving feature in Android 15, smartphone manufacturers will need to ensure that apps App stores allow app restoration when requested. And they should also update their pre-installed launcher app to recognize when apps have been archived and replace their icons with the “archived” version of the icon.
