Android Auto has become one of the most requested features by car users in Europe. It is not uncommon to see potential customers abandon a model if it does not have this function, or Apple CarPlay. Currently, most brands, except Tesla, usually incorporate this option, because it is not expensive and because, as we can see, it is in high demand.
However, not all cars are equipped with it, although there are products to install it and, in addition, most require the use of a charging cable since the wireless Android Auto function is usually reserved for the most expensive vehicles, although there are many ways to make it work in a car with the wired version by purchasing an accessory.
Overall, it is still normal to use your mobile phone as a navigator to go from one place to another, and this option is still completely valid, although there are some things to be careful about so that its use is neither a problem nor a danger.
The support. The first thing to keep in mind is to get a proper accompaniment. The DGT allows its use provided that it does not obstruct vision, so placing it with a suction cup on the front glass can be problematic. It is best to use one that leaves the cell phone close to the radio.
The thread. It is possible that if we use Google Maps we want the mobile phone to be connected, since the battery will drop quickly. It is better to have a wiring that is not loose and that could make it difficult to change brands, modify the air conditioning, etc. If the cable is connected to the mobile phone, it will be necessary to put it in place every time you get in the car. However, there are chargers that have wireless charging and, if our mobile phone also has it, it is very convenient to be able to use wireless charging, which means that the charger cable can be hidden or, at least, fixed to the dashboard since it will not be necessary to never move it.
Voice commands. The bottom of the Google Maps interface in navigation mode displays the Assistant icon on the right side. This allows you to use your voice to search without having to touch the screen too much. For example, you can search for gas stations along the route you’re traveling, so you don’t have to recalculate it.
In the settings of the application itself, it is possible to configure the behavior of the application while driving, so that it limits notifications, activates the Do Not Disturb mode … Given this, it is much more comfortable to use Google Maps safely on mobile, even if our car does not have Android Auto and we also do not want to install one of the external screens that can make it work.
