MIUI 14 is already with us, the latest version of Xiaomi’s personalization layer that became official a few days ago, although it is true that it can be tested for a few weeks. Despite the launch, many Xiaomi they will have to wait a bit more since the updates are rolled out in phases.
And even longer, you will have to wait for your Chinese brand phone to be updated to MIUI 14 if it comes with a firmware region specific. This is the case with most phones purchased from online stores. Therefore, for speed up update we can change this version.
WARNING: Unlocking the bootloader and installing different firmware are processes that can damage your device. If you decide to do this, make sure that you are fully aware of the risks and that you accept the possible problems it may cause. |
How to see the firmware of your Xiaomi
First and foremost, it will be necessary to check what firmware does our terminal have. To do this we will go to Settings> About phone> and we will look at the section MIUI version or MIUI version (for POCO) if we have a sub-brand mobile.
In fact, what we need to check firmware son of letters. Typically, you’ll see the MIUI numbering followed by a parenthesis. This is where we need to focus our view, and this is where we will see something similar to TLOUMIXM (this is an example).
The first letter, the “T” indicates the version of Android (in this case Android 13), the next two or three point to the model in question, and will be the two continuous letters the ones we need. If you see the letters “EU”, it means that you have the European version, which on some models suffers from a delay in updates compared to the global one, represented by an “MI”.
The colleagues from Mundo Xiaomi describe it perfectly in this article. But, let’s continue with the important: if your Xiaomi has a region other than “MI”, we recommend that you change it.
You must meet certain requirements
If you have decided to update to MIUI 14 without waiting for it to arrive in your region, we invite you to continue reading. Of course, keep in mind that this process will erase all files, applications and personal data you have on your phone, so we recommend that you make a backup copy. Besides,
Another mandatory requirement is to have the boot loader unlocked. It is not something very complex, but we must know some aspects of our phone. In the linked article, we have detailed instructions for doing this, but we anticipate that you will have to “ask permission” from Xiaomi to do so. Also you need a properly configured Mi Account
Then all you have to do is download and run Mi Flash Unlock, connect the mobile using the USB cable, put it in fastboot mode (with mobile turned off press volume – and power button) and run the tool. The same application will confirm the release of the bootloader.
Flash MI firmware, best in the world
With him boot loader opened, we can now use another utility that Xiaomi provides to users: Xiaomi Flash Tool. This allows us to load the package from firmware at our terminal, be useful to updateto relock the above boot loader or to reset a Xiaomi.
At this point you will be wondering: where can I get the update? Very easy. There is website which organizes all the mobile updates of the Chinese manufacturer. This is Xiaomi Firmware Updater, in which search for your device. Then it will show you the full list of update packages.
Find and then select the latest version, in this case MIUI 14. If your phone does not have it, find the latest MIUI 13 which allows you to update when available. An important note for this part: make sure to download the package Quick Start and not him recovery, and on the other hand which contains the region indicator “MI”. We are only interested in the first, since the second is intended for an installation using the recovery mode. Extract the files from the package we downloaded until you see the “images” folder.
Changing the firmware will help us to receive updates earlier, but also to clean the mobile and leave it as new
Now we are going to open Xiaomi Flash Tool, and in the first field we will give you the path where the update is hosted (case pictures). If the mobile is correctly connected, we will see it on the main screen of the utility with the identifier 1. At the bottom we will see three options that we can mark, if we are not going to install anything more unofficially, it is advisable to mark clean everything and lock to lock the bootloader. Thus, we will leave the mobile as newly released.
When the process is complete, your Xiaomi mobile will restart with the new version of MIUI, clean and freshly installed. It may take a few minutes, but don’t panic, the first time is normal. Thus, we will have updated to MIUI 14 or switched to the global region to receive it sooner.
