In May 2021, we told you that Google was planning to update processors through Google Play. The idea made a lot of sense: regular driver updates from the App Storeto be able to improve the performance and neural capacities of our phone in a simple way.
As they come together in XDA Developers, Google rejected this plan, ultimately failing to implement it in Android 12 and completely rejecting the idea in Android 13, after sending instructions to developers indicating this data.
Drivers can be updated, but not from the Play Store
The idea was cool: updates from the Google Play Store to make our processor even faster and more efficient. This was Google’s goal with controllers, APIs and NNAPI drivers maintainers of neural networks and machine learning in Android
Last year, during its developer conference, Google indicated that it was working with Qualcomm to make these types of updates in Android 12. A year later, the Android ML (Machine Learning) team, submitted new information to AOSP GitHub
In fact, the patches they submit to the AOSP code code related to NNAPI updates is removed. Google indicates that the project has not advanced.
This does not mean that the drivers cannot be updated via OTAs from the manufacturers themselves, but plans to do so from the Play Store are diluteda project that will never see the light of day.
