Anything that involves changes to the basic workflow with the Mac and a new approach to managing windows and the visual space taken up by applications gets my attention. Such was the case with Apple announcing the visual organizer macOS 13 and iPadOS 16, a new way to handle switching between apps so we can focus on one taskeliminating the distractions of windows stacked in the background.
Some initial concerns: only allow five recent apps in the side carousel
On a visual level, yes, this function is magnificent. It only shows one app and hides everything else. We only see the application and the wallpaper. It even removes desktop icons from our perspective. Of course: sometimes it can be counterproductive, like when we want to manipulate these files by dragging them to another application in use, like Pixelmator to add new layers with these images, or Safari to download a file .
It’s a welcome addition, although it’s unclear if it will be widely used and continued, or if it will remain an option for a smaller percentage of users. After testing the beta of macOS 13 for a few hours, I may be leaning more towards the latter, which is not necessarily negative: we cannot expect that all the functions released by Apple will suit us. , there are many types of Mac users.
