One of the latest features of watchOS 9 is that since There are no more new Nike Apple Watches for saleand it’s been years since Apple “released” the bracelets of this edition, now the Nike spheres are offered for any Apple Watch as long as it is compatible with this version of the operating system.
Nike spheres have always had a dual function:
- The aesthetics, convincing to buy a model slightly more expensive than the normal model.
- And the functional, giving direct access to the Nike training app on our watch, apart from other possible customizations.
And even if I saw it as complicated, one of these new spheres convinced me.
reduce complications
In recent months I am using the sphere called Infogram, for the simple reason that it displays the most complications. Up to eight: four in the corners and four inside the analog clock. However, as I favor precision and speed in telling the time, I have configured the upper central complication with the time in digital. I would have gladly put the analog hands out of sight, but the Watch doesn’t allow that.
In this area, he had a lot of information, namely:
- The current ability to start a training session through the Athlytic app, which takes into account accumulated fatigue, heart rate, sleep…
- The time I slept the night before, thanks to AutoSleep.
- My level of fatigue based on the sport practiced today, also by Athletic.
- activity rings.
- The remaining battery.
- The next alarm to sound.
- And the button to start a workout.
In looking at the options offered by the new Nike spheres, I did not see any that were very satisfactory for my needs. Almost all contain too large a clock and little information.
However, I ended up finding an option in the ‘Nike (Hybrid)‘, which with a slight adjustment offers the digital watch in the center of the case, in a much larger size than I was already used to, as well as five complications to choose from (apart from the fixed one from Nike): four in the corners, one in the upper central arc.
I configured this one by sacrificing some of the information that the previous one contained, leaving only:
- The remaining battery.
- The sleep goal in AutoSleep.
- Current training capacity according to Athletic.
- activity rings.
- And direct access to the Training app, which shows the most common type of ditto I do, but can be changed by tapping on it.
I lost something along the way, but now I gained much more visible time, complications that are never hidden by the needles (as in the capture of my previous watch face, where the remaining battery is not well appreciated when the hands are around half past six), and the possibility of greater color customization. In fact, the orange color is designed to combine with the Loop Alpine bracelet in orange, one of the novelties announced at the last event that will go on sale in a few days as a companion to the Apple Watch Ultra.
Paradoxically, the Nike sphere I find it sterile in one section: the Nike complication. I don’t use it nor do I want to use it as a replacement for the native app to work. Too often I’ve found it to be buggy or poorly functioning enough to trust it. A counterpart had to have this sphere.
Says that, the greatness of the Apple Watch also depends on its ability to customize it according to our wishes and needs. One of the best tips you can give someone with this watch is to convey the ideal of wasting a few minutes trying to find the right settings. It is a small effort that we will see later more than rendered.
