We already know when Google Podcasts dies in Europe and the rest of the world. Here’s how to migrate your podcasts to another app

The Google cemetery adds a new victim. Google Podcasts is the latest app that the search giant has decided to kill, much to the regret of all its users. The company wants people who used this app to listen to their favorite podcasts sign in to YouTube Music, unifying your entire music and podcast experience in one app. However, there are other alternatives.

Google Podcasts died for the first time in the United States at the beginning of April, and we already know the date when the app will stop working in Europe, Latin America and the rest of the world: We’ll say goodbye to Google Podcasts on June 24.

If you use Google Podcast, here’s how to transfer the podcasts you listen to to another app

Google launched the Google Podcasts app in June 2018, and as happened with other products (how can I forget you, Google Reader), Google decided to kill it. Six years later, users of this podcast listening application say goodbye, but all is not lost: it’s possible take all our favorite programs to another app.

Google Podcasts closes its doors and becomes the umpteenth Google victim, but it won't be the last

Google wants this application to be YouTube Music, its service for listening to music like Spotify. The idea is to have everything you listen to in a single application, so YouTube Music also allows you to subscribe to podcasts and download episodes of the programs you listen to.

Since Google is forcing us to say goodbye to Google Podcasts, the least they can do is make the signup process easier for us. transfer our podcasts to another application.

To do it, we follow these steps:

  • We access Google Podcasts. The application will remind us that on June 24 it will stop working. Under this message, press the button “Export subscriptions
  • From the next screen we can export our podcasts directly to YouTube Music. We press “Export“. If you have not downloaded the YouTube Music app, we recommend that you install it before performing this process.
  • The YouTube Music application will open and we can play subscription transfer by clicking on “Transfer as…” and confirming on the following screen

And there you have it, your podcast subscriptions are now migrated to YouTube Music. But If you want to use another podcast app, that’s also possible. In this case, we follow the following steps:

In the image on the right we see the option to import subscriptions into the Pocket Casts app.

  • In the Google Podcasts app, after clicking “Export Subscriptions”, We select the “Download” option. In doing so, we will download an OPML type file that we can transfer to another application
  • Next, download a podcast app, there are many really good options available (my favorite is Pocket Casts). In the configuration menu of the new application we look for the option that says Import podcasts o Import an OPML fileand we select the file that we downloaded in the Google application

After a while of using YouTube Music, I'm back on Spotify and I don't regret it: it's everything I missed

Once you import it, your favorite podcasts will appear in the new app. It’s a very simple process, so although we regret having to change applications and say goodbye to Google Podcasts, at least we have the possibility of recovering the latest episode of Loop Infinito, the podcast from our colleagues at Applesfera , or any other podcast on new request.
