A few weeks ago we traveled to China to learn about the latest innovations and the ins and outs of OPPO factories, but we also had the opportunity to get our hands on and try the top of the range from the Asian firm for yourself.
Because no, the OPPO X6 Find Pro has not reached our borders and never will (in fact, the OPPO X7 Find will be presented tomorrow). It also doesn’t look like their latest generation of foldable devices will arrive, the clamshell type OPPO Find N3 Flip and the butterfly type, the OPPO Find N3. In fact, the best next-generation OPPO you can buy in Europe is the OPPO Reno10 5G, an ambitious mid-range that left us wanting more: no wonder he tried his older brothers.
OPPO Find X6 Pro: a serious candidate for the best mobile of the year (and also the most beautiful)
Taking into account the presentation schedule of the Chinese brand and despite the absence of official statements regarding OPPO, we can say with certainty that it will not be sold in Europe: it was presented in March 2023 and its successor will be released tomorrow in China . And the truth is that it’s a shame, because he was running to be one of the phones of the year and that’s how I felt when I was able to try it.
With a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 under the hood, a Quad HD+ AMOLED 120 Hz panel with a spectacular brightness of 2,500 nits (which are already behind us, because brightness is the new megapixel for manufacturers), a top-notch photographic configuration and the last in charge, the technical sheet is at the level of the flagship in question
The OPPO X6 Find Pro enters through the eyes and screams premium from all sides. The front features a superb screen with a luxurious look, with reduced bezels and equipped with a hole for the selfie camera. The phone is pleasant in the hand in terms of dimensions, even if it is not really light for its dimensions (216 grams, or around 30 grams more than the iPhone 15 Pro).
Its chassis is a sleek matte aluminum with gently curved corners, the volume buttons on the right, the power button on the left, and the USB-C charging port on the bottom, a fairly common layout. But we saved the best for last: a fullback with a lot of personality.
The role is divided into two: on the one hand, generous module where the cameras are locatedsigned in collaboration with Hasselblad, in a circular protrusion placed in the upper and centered area which means that when the phone is placed face up, it remains tilted.
The second thing is that the lower part of the rear is covered in eco-friendly synthetic leather that is pleasant to look at and touch. Although powerful, which can make it uncomfortable to handle with one hand, it offers a good grip thanks to details such as the curvature or this textured effect of the textile.
OPPO Find N3: the twin brother of the OnePlus Open teaches a lesson
I’m not going to lie to you: when the team of journalists who traveled to China with OPPO got their hands on the Find N3, there were more than one or two people who seriously considered checking it out because we had from the previous ones: it is the twin of the OnePlus Open and buying it there the price difference was notable (although there are then other tolls to pay in the form of restrictions and absences in the software) and OnePlus’ first foldable won us over.
In fact, the OPPO Find N3 is a lesson in what a foldable should be in the design section, in our experience: when it’s practically a standard phone although a little thicker, but even at first glance it compares very little to the X6 Find Pro.
First because visually the curves and the protuberance of the Consequently, this device with a ratio 20:0:9 and a weight of 239 grams is moderately comfortable to use with one hand and the format toll is not too high when folded.
But not only does it present a good design and compactness in what is technically possible when folded, but its 6.31″ AMOLED exterior screen with 2K resolution is the icing on the cake, since allows it to be used as a cell phone. This point seems secondary, but it is not: we are not dealing with an auxiliary panel in terms of quality or size, which means being able to use it often for things like scrolling on Instagram while taking the metro or reply to a WhatsApp. In other words, in most scenarios, the external display is sufficient.
But if we need more because it is not enough, I think for example to watch a video, respond to an email or read a document, when we open it we find a panel of type LTPO AMOLED of 7, 82 inches with 2K resolution which offers a fantastic image quality in terms of sharpness and brightness.
Another point to highlight is its very high build quality: It is sturdy and fits perfectly, so when folded it feels like it is sealed to keep dirt out. In short, it is a phone which, due to its lines and materials, is robust and premium.
The wrinkle on the main screen is barely noticeablewhich is good news thanks to commendable work with the unfolded folding mechanism, at least in these first manipulations: it opens and closes easily and even with one hand and gives a feeling of solidity.
We can dedicate a few lines to the performances and the cameras: we know from his technical specifications that he aspires to be the best of the best and in this show of hand he has left the proof.
OPPO Find N3 Flip
The third phone from the brand that we were able to get our hands on was the OPPO Find N3 Flip, the most affordable and compact foldable in the house. Clamshell foldables are usually the most affordable, which is also true for this OPPO model, but Its technical sheet takes it to the top of the rangewith a Dimensity 9200 as engine, triple rear camera with 50 MP main sensor, 48 MP wide angle and 32 MP telephoto lens, among others.
In hand this phone is a delight for its lightness and design, something we’ve already seen with its predecessor the N2 Flip. However, the two generally share dimensions and weight. Although at 198 grams it’s not exactly a lightweight phone, when folded it takes up essentially half of it, making it comfortable and portable.
In fact, the main aesthetic changes compared to the previous generation are that the camera module is more prominent and its body has curved glass on the sides. Personally, the question of the camera penalizes in terms of going unnoticed in the pocket, but in exchange it always seems more premium.
The exterior screen, 3.26 inches AMOLED type, has the quality of offering any type of content, although is dedicated to specific tasks like seeing notifications, skipping songs, timers, quick settings in the control center or taking photos, for which having the camera next to you is a real treat for selfie lovers.
But unlike the N3 itself, With the Flip version, the normal thing will be to unfold the phone to use it, with a high-end screen, 6.8 inches AMOLED type, 10 bits of color depth and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which shows clear images with good colors. Of course, the edges around the panel remain moderately thick like on the N2 Flip.
If having to unfold the phone is a necessity, having a good hinge mechanism seems providential… and it is indeed the case: the folding and unfolding process is agile, smooth and strong, giving a feeling of reliability and not fragility. However, it can also remain partially deployed. As with the N3 type book, the wrinkle goes virtually unnoticed.
