Realme has just presented the new Realme C75, which will go on sale in a few days and, among other things, boasts of being “the first mobile with IP69 waterproof certificate in the entry range”. And we emphasize the entry range, because in other price ranges there are more models with this quality.
But what does it mean for a mobile phone to have IP69 certification? What tests did you take to get it? And what is the difference with other certifications like IP68 or IP67? We explain everything to you below.
What is IP certification

IP certification is a standard created by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) to qualify “the level of protection possessed by the materials containing a device or equipment against the entry of foreign elements” (dust and liquids, mainly).
The letters IP are the initials of “Ingress Protection”, that is, protection against the entry (or entry) of objects that invade the container of any computer. The first number indicates the level of protection against dust, while the second indicates the level of protection against liquids (usually water).
The first number indicates the level of protection against dust, while the second indicates the level of protection against liquids.
Generally, the higher the number in both cases, the more protection the device in question will offer. Solids (dust) filtration levels range from 0 to 6 and liquid (water) protection is measured from 0 to 9.
A few years ago, the highest degree of protection was IP68, which certifies that the device total protection against dust (IP6X) and protection against immersion at a depth greater than 1 meter for more than 30 minutes (IPX8).
IP69 certification and military-grade protection

Although IP68 is the most common classification, we find more and more cell phones that also boast IP69 certification. This guarantees protection against short-range jets at high pressure and high temperature, which is why it is generally used for electrical or electronic equipment in road vehicles.
An important point must be emphasized here: that a mobile phone has a type of certification, This does not mean that it offers all levels of resistanceeven if they are below their scale.
That is, unless otherwise noted, a phone with the maximum IP69 certification does not need to have been tested to dust protection levels 1 to 5 or water protection levels 1 to 8.
Come on, it can withstand pressure jets, but not immersion. It is therefore important to look at the technical specifications of the smartphone. Sony, for example, included in its models of IP certificates (especially IP65 and IP68), and the Realme C75 we mentioned at the beginning has IP66, IP68 and IP69 certifications.
In addition to the different degrees of IP protection, there are the standard MIL-STD (or MIL-SPEC) used by the United States Department of Defense in the equipment of its soldiers to approve a higher level of resistance.
And we're not just talking about water and dust, but also about falls, pressure, extreme temperatures, solar radiation, vibrationsetc. Nowadays, there are also many MIL-STD 810G military certified mobile phones.
