When Tim Cook posted on Monday that “there is something in the air” this week, we expected a new iPad Air (which happened), perhaps an iPad of the 11th generation (which also happened) and a new MacBook Air (Wednesday to come). But surprisingly, we hear that Apple launches a single thing in the week in the form of a new Mac studio.
According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple plans to update the high -end office for the first time in almost two years. But it also includes a headscratcher: it will not include an ultra M4. On the contrary, Apple can present the M3 Ultra, which most people thought they were as good as dead.
Apple used the M Max and Ultra Chips series in the studio and Mac Pro but of the same generation of fleas. Gurman reports that Apple will use an M4 Max and an Ultra M3, rather than M4 versions of the two chips. It seems to be a strange thing to do, because the M3 Ultra will be faster as a M4 max, but the gains will not be as dramatic as they should be.
Why would Apple not just go with an ultra M4? There may be manufacturing problems. Or maybe Apple wants to create a distinction between the Mac Studio and the Mac Pro, which should get the M4 Ultra. We should know more tomorrow, but for now, you can read everything on the rumors of the M4 Mac Studio and the M4 Ultra Mac Pro while we are trying to understand this one.
