Mobile cameras are more and more complex and complete. Part of the fault lies in the software and part with the hardware.
One of the photography modes that are gaining momentum is the Tilt Shift mode, which allows us to photograph scenes with a similar result to what we would have by photographing a model.
What is Tilt Shift Photography or Diorama
This type of photography is what we normally see when photographing models given the shallow depth of field we have.
However, the idea of this mode on mobiles is to achieve it with everyday scenes, by applying a sort of selective filter.
For example, in realme, you have integrated this mode in the Realme 8 Pro directly in the camera application. In it, an algorithm calculates the effect for each pixel in the image and applies them to the photograph.
In this way, we can take photos directly with this mode without the need for cameras with decentralized lenses.
How to take a tilt shift photograph
In order to use this type of processing, we can use external applications or the camera application itself in the event that our mobile even has the option. This happens, for example, in the realme 8 Pro.
In case we need an external app, the most comfortable is to use Instagram as it has an option for it. You can see it applied on this image I took on the last big trip I took, to Prague two years ago.
To apply the filter, you just need to choose the photo you are going to upload, find the blur option and select Linear.
There, we can modify the inclination of the blur as well as the width of the area that will be in focus, something key to be able to adapt each image.
Tips for creating these types of images
Although in theory we can apply it to any photograph, the ideal is do it from urban or landscape settings, reinforcing the idea of photographing a model.
Also, it’s always a good idea do it from above, because that’s how we would normally shoot towards a scale model. However, this is not mandatory, as seen in the following photos.
Finally, the one who has people or cars a little more separated from the rest This helps to reinforce the idea that the image is from a model, although this cannot always be achieved, especially if we are not rotating from a certain height.
