Sometimes to do something new, you have to go back to something “old.” That’s what three heavyweights must have thought. Jemaine Clement (creator of ‘Flight of the Conchords’), Iain Morris (‘Intermediate‘) And Taika Waititi (“Reserve Dogs”, “What We Do in the Shadows” or “Our Flag Means Death”). Three friends, three comedy geniuses of our time who decided to take on a classic like ‘Time Bandits‘, translated in Spanish as ‘The Heroes of Time’, one of Terry Gilliam’s most emblematic films in his last stage with Monty Python.
Apple TV+ is dressing up with this premiere that can be seen exclusively this Wednesday, July 24 and which features another of these titans of laughter, Lisa Kudrow, much more than the eternal Phoebe from ‘Friends’
The time machine among most machines
For those who have never seen the original film “The Heroes of Time” (1981), considered the first part of a “trilogy of imagination” composed of this one and two timeless milestones such as “Brazil” and “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen”, we could summarize it like this: Imaginative Child Discovers Hidden Time Hole in His Room. After going through it, he ends up enlisting in a bunch of completely crazy guys, adventurous thieves who behave like the Guardians of the Galaxy.
This team of eccentric bandits are always in the right place at the right time: in the midst of Napoleonic battles, alongside Robin Hood and his acolytes and in many other situations where dark humor brings out the best and worst in human beings.
In any case, we are talking about a great production for all ages in which Apple has put all its efforts and where it is surrounded by a handful of top stars: the aforementioned Lisa Kudrow is joined by Tadhg Murphy (‘Conversations Between Friends’), Roger Jean Nsengiyumva (‘You Don’t Know Who I Am’), Charlyne Yi (‘Embarrassing Me’), Rachel House (‘The Heartbreakers’) and James Dryden, known for his work in films such as ‘Ready Player One’ or ‘The Dig’.
And for data fans, in addition to being directed, written and produced by Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris and Taika Waititi, the series also features star collaborations such as writer Garrett Basch, known for the magnificent mini-series ‘The Night Of’.
And to finish the staging, Tim Coddington, who knew how to make up for it with a formula that he had not explored for years, when ‘Pirates of the Wild Islands‘, the 1983 adventure film starring Tommy Lee Jones as Captain Bully Hayes. Don’t let this gem go unnoticed.
