According to rumors, we should see a renewal of the iPhone SE next year. It is not known if the model would be shown in September or at an event in the spring. And that’s not the only thing the rumors disagree on. Are mixed various layouts, display and more options. Let’s put things in order.
An iPhone SE with a special place in the iPhone family
The first rumors about the new iPhone SE were published in 2019. At that time, Min-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple was working on an iPhone SE 2 Plus, with a larger screen. An iPhone that should have been released in 2021, but that we have never seen appear. Kuo later withdrew these predictions to claim that the new The iPhone SE would have the same screen size as the one we already know.
In this regard, the rumors were pretty calm until a few days ago, expert screens analyst Ross Young. suggested we would see an iPhone SE Plus, although the screen size is still 4.7 inches. Among the main novelties of this model we would find a new updated processor, although we do not know exactly which one, and the arrival of 5G connectivity, probable reason for the name Plus.
In this regard, it must be said that although the surname Plus has always represented a larger size, Apple has long since changed the terms. Perhaps to move away from the concept of Plus that we find in AppleTV +, in iCloud + and in other services, Apple adopted the Max variant to refer to size. So in this regard, the last name Plus on the iPhone SE makes some sense.

Young believes Apple is also working on a larger variant of iPhone SE. An iPhone that could arrive in 2023 or 2024 and which would have a screen of 6.1 inches. A screen size which coincidentally is the same as that of the iPhone XR, which the latest rumors, albeit from unusual sources, place as the basis for a future iPhone SE. If confirmed, we would be facing an iPhone with Touch ID on the unlock button and an LCD screen with a hole for the front camera.
The truth is, it’s a bit early to predict too many details about the iPhone SE. Another factor to consider in these predictions is the supposed size change we’ll see in the new iPhone 14, if they end up with that name. Only two sizes are expected to be split into two sizes for the iPhone 14 and the same two sizes for the iPhone 14 Pro. IPhone SE might fit a little less, although it is too early to speak of its disappearance from the catalog.
What is clear is that the iPhone SE has a very specific audience. An audience looking for a small and powerful entry-level iPhone. An iPhone with which to either take its first steps in the Apple ecosystem, or in which the budget is a priority on the screen or the cameras. We will see, in a few months, what Apple is about to show us.
