WhatsApp has prepared a avatar function for your app, and now is when users have finally started to get activated. At the moment, it is available for some users in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android, according to WaBetaInfo.
WhatsApp avatars are practically the same as Facebook or Instagram, allowing us to customize facial features, clothing, and accessories to create a digital clone of who we are, or how we feel. They can then be used as profile pictures and stickers.
WhatsApp now has avatars
A few years ago, when WhatsApp was a pretty bare-bones app that didn’t even have stickers, if we were told the app would include avatar functionality, we wouldn’t believe it. And yet, there it is: WhatsApp avatars seem ready enough to start activating some of your beta testers.
To find out if you are one of the lucky ones, all you have to do is open WhatsApp and enter the settings. If so, you will see that you have a new section in the settings called Avatar. After grabbing it and pressing Create your avatarstart the process of building your digital alter ego by choosing between different designs for eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth and more.
If you’ve ever used the Facebook avatar maker -or the Instagram ones- you’ll find yourself at home, because it’s basically the same. In addition to going between tabs to configure different aspects, you can touch the mirror icon to see yourself and make sure your avatar is true to life.
When you’ve finished your avatar, you can do two things with it for now: set it as your profile picture -for which you can choose between different poses and background colors- and create a sticker pack with your avatar to use in WhatsApp. Again, this is the same as the avatar-based sticker packs you’ll find on Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram.
These are the two initial uses of avatars, but it should be remembered that another leaked a long time ago: using your avatar as a mask during a video call. It does not seem to be available yet, although if you want to have an idea of how it works you just have to try it in a Messenger call, where it is already possible.
