WhatsApp continues to work towards becoming the definitive app, used for much more than sending messages and posting statuses. The platform has placed a lot of emphasis on improving the calling and video calling experience, a sign of its interest in competing with Zoom, Telegram, Google Meet and other similar apps.
Now WhatsApp wants it to be so easier than ever to organize meetings, calls and video calls through the platform. To do this, they will add a new links shortcut for calls, one of the most useful but probably least known functions of the application.
WhatsApp will improve links for calls and video calls
WhatsApp introduced the ability to create links for calls a few years ago, but many users still don’t seem to know about this feature. The idea of links is simple: we can create meeting rooms for our calls and Share a link so other users can join. This prevents, for example, a person being unable to quickly and easily join a call after it has already started.
Yes, this is something we’ve seen on apps like Zoom for a long time, but it’s also available on WhatsApp. The problem is that the ability to create links for calls is a bit hidden in the application: you must enter the WhatsApp Calls tab (in the lower bar of the application), press the button to start a new call then select the “New call link” option.
The latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android revealed that the platform will integrate the ability to create call links directly in each individual and group chat
This way it will be much easier and above all faster to create a link for a call. Want to set up a video call for one of the group chats you participate in most? It will no longer be necessary to go to another section of the application and follow other steps to create it, It will be possible to create a call link directly from the chat itself and let all the guests who wish to join us.
This shortcut was originally only available in group chats, but the latest development version of WhatsApp has integrated this possibility into individual chats as well. For now, this change is only available in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android, but it is expected that the platform will offer it to all users of the application in the near future.
