iOS 18.1 could be one of the biggest iPhone updates and there’s not much left before its official release
Apple has been testing iOS 18.1 in beta for many weeks now, leading us to believe that its launch should be coming soon. We are facing one of the most anticipated software updates and that is why Apple takes its development very seriously. When will iOS 18.1 be officially released? The iOS 18 update schedule means we can shrink iOS 18.1 release window.
Previous versions
And we look to the pastwe see that Apple usually releases the second major update of its operating systems between October 20 and 25. This may be a hint for the release of iOS 18.1:
- iOS 17.1: October 25, 2023
- iOS 16.1: October 24, 2022
- iOS 15.1: October 25, 2021
- iOS 14.1: October 20, 2020
iOS 18.1 is released
iOS 18.1 has been an atypical operating system since the first beta was released before iOS 18 was official
Therefore, we cannot trust as much as what happened in previous years in which 3 or 4 beta versions were released, the development of iOS 18.1 is different. Again, iOS 18.1 should arrive in mid to late Octoberknowing that Apple generally releases its updates at the beginning of the week.
SO The launch of iOS 18.1 could arrive between Monday October 14 and Wednesday October 30in case it gets delayed more than it should. We will be able to specify the exact release week of iOS 18.1 RC.
What’s new in iOS 18.1
iOS 18.1 is a historic update that will be remembered for a long time thanks to the arrival of Apple Intelligence, even if the update introduces many other new features:
Apple Intelligence
- writing tools– Users can rewrite, correct and summarize text almost anywhere they type, including Mail, Notes, Pages and third-party apps.
- New features for Siri:
- New design with a bright light that surrounds the edge of the screen when Siri is active.
- The ability to switch between text and voice for Siri interactions.
- Siri can now offer users assistance on their devices wherever they go and answer thousands of questions about how to do something on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
- Siri can track whether users stumble over words and maintain context from one query to the next.
- New features for Mail:
- A new section at the top of the inbox displays the most urgent emails, like a same-day dinner invitation or boarding pass.
- In a user’s inbox, instead of previewing the first few lines of each email, they can view summaries without opening a message.
- Smart Reply provides guidance for rapid response and will identify questions in an email to ensure all responses are answered.
- Reduce interruptions– A new approach that only displays notifications that might need immediate attention, such as text about an early daycare pickup.
- New features for photos:
- Natural language can be used to search for specific photos, such as “Maya skating in a tie-dye shirt” or “Katie with stickers on her face.”
- Video Search adds the ability to search for specific moments in clips so users can navigate directly to the relevant segment.
- Memories: Users can create the story they want to see by simply writing a description. Through understanding language and images, Apple Intelligence will choose the best photos and videos based on description, create a story with chapters based on the themes identified in the photos, and organize them into a movie with its own narrative arc.
- Transcriptions: transcript summaries.
