There are a total of five different iPhones that will stop receiving updates in 2022.
After the arrival of iOS 16, Apple shared the official list of iPhones compatible with the new operating system. So, We already know which iPhone models will stop updating in 2022and there are several models.
The list is not too long, but it is includes some surprises that very few expected. We really expected three iPhone models to stop updating in 2022, but there will be more. We expected 3 and in the end there will be 5 iPhones that will no longer receive updates.
iPhone models that will no longer receive updates in 2022
Officially we have Five iPhone models that won’t get iOS 16so they will stop updating this same 2022 when Apple stops releasing iOS 15 updates. Officially, these iPhone models will stop receiving support this year:
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone SE (1st generation)
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7Plus
These five iPhone models will remain on iOS 15, so will stop receiving software updates after summer. At this point, the iPhone 6s will have received 7 years of support, the original iPhone SE will have received 6.5 years of support, and the iPhone 7s will have had 6 years of support.
How long will these iPhones receive updates?
Initially, these iPhone models will be updated until September 2022. A few weeks before the release of iOS 16, Apple will release the latest update to iOS 15, which will be the last that these five models of iPhone will receive. So, These iPhones will stop receiving support in late August or early September
However, we have to consider something. Apple recently released security updates for older iPhonesNot too long ago we saw an iOS 12 update for older iPhones. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that Apple will release an iOS 15 update in the future, fixing some security issues for the five iPhone models that remained in this update.
As with the iPhone, there are also many other Apple devices that will also stop receiving software updates in 2022. New operating systems they left out several models of Apple Watch, Mac and iPadso this year Apple will stop supporting more than 15 different devices.
