Even though Google Maps is still king, I only use Apple Maps and I have my reasons
Apple Maps was launched many years ago as an alternative to Google Maps on iPhone. An alternative that was highly criticized in its early days, but which It was really very positive for the users. On the one hand, it offered two alternatives to people with an iPhone and, on the other hand, it forced Google to significantly improve its iPhone application, which was much inferior to that of Android.
It must be admitted that in the beginning, Apple Maps was far behind Google Maps. But for now, I think they are more balanced than many think. Actually, I stopped being Google Maps in favor of Apple Maps. Choosing between Apple Maps and Google Maps is more difficult than ever.
Apple Maps design is superior to Google Maps
Although it is somewhat subjective, the truth is that I think that Apple Maps is way ahead of Google Maps in terms of design. Google Maps recently changed its colors to look more like the Apple app. But despite this, I think the design is quite off, in all sections.
He design of streets, parks, houses and even businesses or premises that appear on the map look much cleaner in Apple Maps. In the Apple app, you can see buildings, landmarks, and even trees in 3D on the map without activating anything, and everything looks much better, too. Something that is very appreciated when using the maps in the car and that can help you a lot to locate yourself.
And that's without mentioning the directions when we use turn-by-turn navigation. Apple Map offers much more information, Roadways, bridges and tunnels appear, exits appear much better detailed than on Google Maps. I think in terms of design, Apple Maps is several steps ahead of Google Maps.
The amount of information has improved in Apple Maps
Traditionally, the main problem with Apple Maps has been a lack of information. The map contained much less data than Google's, making it more difficult to search for something specific. However, in a big city like Madrid, This is no longer a problem in Apple Maps for a long time.
It is true that in certain regions of the world, Google Maps may continue to offer better information. But in big cities, Apple Maps is already up to the taskso for me it's not a problem in 99% of cases.
CarPlay integration is superior
Using iPhone in car with CarPlay is a pleasure that allows us to easily use the device in the car. and the Apple Maps integration is superior in CarPlay. While it's true that Apple now lets you use Siri to get directions in Google Maps and it can be used as the default maps app, Apple's app integration is superior.
For example, if you use your car every day to go to work, As soon as you connect your iPhone to CarPlay, Apple Maps suggests a route to work. And when you leave, it will show you the direction to follow to reach your house. Without you having to do anything and in complete privacy.
Public transport routes are better
I have traveled to many cities and the directions Apple Maps gave me are generally better than Google Maps. From using certain station exits, stations that appear drawn on Apple Maps but not Google Maps, to providing better connections. Normally, I found the step-by-step process much more intuitive in Apple Maps, plus the time remaining until the subway, train, or bus arrives appearing from the beginning.
Privacy on everything you search
Google lives off advertising and privacy is not something that characterizes its applications. Several times Some places I searched for appeared highlighted on Google Maps. Or, even worse, high-profile companies appear to be paying for it. This makes the experience noticeably inferior to Apple Maps.
In the Apple Maps app, you won't find any advertisingonly what you are looking for will appear highlighted on the map above the rest of the places. Your house or parked car will also appear on the map so you can move around easily.
