On Monday, Apple left us with a lot of news at WWDC 2022. iOS 16 is one of the main protagonists, among which the new iOS 16 lock screen stands out from the rest of the improvements. Unfortunately, some iphone users will see all this burladero news instead of going down to the square. And it did nothing.
iPhone 7 is excluded from iOS 16
On Monday, we surprisingly discovered that the iPhone 8 was the base model compatible with iOS 16. The iPhone 8 was introduced almost five years ago with the iPhone X in September 2017. Along with iOS 16, that means you’ll get six versions of iOS in its six years of support. iOS 17 may add another year, but that’s too far ahead.
What really matters are the devices were excluded from iOS 16. Specifically, the first-generation iPhone 6s and iPhone SE launched in 2015. That Apple give up to the iPhone 6s in its iOS 16 compatibility was predictable, after all this generation had broken all support records seven years behind schedule. A real milestone in the mobile industry.
Nobody expected that after seven years of iPhone 6s support, Apple would leave the iPhone 7 with “only” six
However, no one expected iPhone 7 to be excluded from iOS 16 compatibility as well. This is the first time since the iPhone 5c that an Apple terminal goes back in terms of compatibility with past models. Going from seven to six years or versions of iOS.
On other occasions, Apple has adapted the functions that certain models can perform so that can upgrade. We don’t know the technical or hardware limitations of the iPhone 7, but its exclusion is certainly odd. More when iOS 16 does not support the iPhone 7 with its A10 Fusion but we see how iPadOS 16 supports an iPad 5 with an A9.
User anger with iOS 16 and an iPhone 7
With each new release of iOS, it is common for Apple to stop supporting previous generation iPhones. It is not uncommon for all iPhones that are compatible with one version are also compatible with the next. It happened with iOS 9, with iOS 12, with iOS 14 and with iOS 15.
🚨 Apple just killed iPhone 7 with iOS 16, 6s, SE 1, 7 and 7 Plus are left out 🚨

However, iOS 16 is transferred to iPhone 7 and cancels the acquired compatibility. Maybe, the most painful for these users is not to take advantage of the new lock screen, having to settle for the official wallpapers of iOS 16:
My iPhone 7 Plus won’t update to iOS 16, but at least I’ll have the wallpaper 😩📲 pic.twitter.com/ydYGuc0PmA

In a way, iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 they have already enjoyed enough years in addition official support.
Looking at Apple’s trajectory over previous years, it would not have been strange that the iPhone 7 it would have remained on iOS 14, but ended up updating to iOS 15.
I see a lot of users get upset and assure that the iPhone 7 and 7 plus can support the new features of iOS 16. Remember that according to the roadmap to which Apple had accustomed us, the iPhone 7 should have remained under iOS 14 but still updated to iOS 15😐 https://t.co/5X0SijDT8u

Apple has never confirmed its software support plans for its iPhones. That would be great find out how many years of minimum support your iPhone has before buying them. We now know that the minimum is between 5 and 6 years.
