One more case in which a woman was harassed by an AirTag illegally placed on the tire of her car, thanks to Apple’s security system they managed to find the harasser
According to a report from media outlet WTNH, a woman was alerted to an AirTag lodged in her car as part of Apple’s security features. The notification was received on his iPhone and so he contacted the police. A story that dates back to February 2023 and which ended only a few days ago.
An investigation that seemed lost when the harasser was not found
Unfortunately, this is another case of harassment using trackers placed without a person’s consent. Wife originally from Goshen, Connecticut, received alerts in February 2023 regarding a device that was inside their vehicle. He thought it was a family member who had forgotten their AirPods. Days after Until March 24, 2023, you will receive a notification encouraging you to carefully check your vehicle.
By finding the AirTag attached to the inside of the vehicle’s front tire, precisely positioned on the driver’s side, immediately contacted the police. The device was placed in a plastic bag and the police began searching for the stalker.
Thanks to the serial number of the accessory, the police found the necessary information to open the investigation. The harasser’s name is Anthony Magrohis address was associated with the town of Torring ton, CT.
The research lasted a year and was successful.
The woman indicated that she did not know anyone with that name and that I never had any interaction with him. The police attempted to locate the individual, but they could not locate him at his address or in the city itself. Until May 8, 2023, they managed to make telephone contact but he indicated he had moved to Bridgeportthe most populous city in Connecticut.
He was summoned to testify in the case, but indicated he did not drive and would need transportation to get there.. He was a clear threat and he was no longer answering calls. 2 days ago, On February 7 this year they managed to contact him but now in another place called West Haven.
Now a direct arrest has been made and he has been taken to Troop B in North Canaan.. The crime, not being considered serious, caused him to pay a $10,000 security bond although an arraignment is still pending on February 16.
Apple’s AirTag, as we have commented many times with other similar cases, is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it is a great device that can help us keep an eye on our objects or belongings. On another side, unfortunately it is used for malicious purposes to harass peoplesome more serious and which resulted in prison sentences or simply for causing inconvenience without thinking of the consequences.
