The Galaxy S24 series is now available in Europe and now there is a last minute surprise for one of the three models. Enough the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 would be able to detect when the user has suffered a car accident, as is the case with Google mobile phones and some iPhones.
When an unexpected accident occurs, the moments that follow are vitally important for emergency services to arrive as quickly as possible. These minutes can mean the difference between life and deathand therefore a feature such as accident detection becomes essential so that the smartphone itself can react quickly to a disaster of this type.
The cellphone sends an emergency signal so that emergency services can receive it
If Android already includes a seismic alert service, all mobile phones with this operating system are also distinguished by their wide variety of sensors, such as the accelerometer or the gyroscope, capable of identify sudden movements. They are responsible for providing enough data for the system and applications to read and thus identify a crash.
The current problem is that not all mobile phones offer this detection because it is not easy to analyze the data so that the device can identify it that there was a road accident. On Google Pixel a low power sensor hub is used which continuously collects and analyzes sensor data. When a possible crash is identified, the mobile activates the various main applications (which consume a lot of battery) to confirm the result and thus activate the accident alert.
According to Android Police, Google was behind the implementation of this feature by third-party mobile manufacturers, but without much success. And even if Samsung has not communicated anything about the possibility of including this detection, we now know that it is developing it in one way or another.
From Android Police they discovered by chance, thanks to the use of the Tasker application to display all the sensors of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, that the one called “Car Crash Detect Wakeup” was listed
It was then a matter of discovering in One UI 6.1 (the new version based on Android 14) a hidden system application called “MoccaMobile”, which contains the code to start or stop the car crash sensor. In fact, this app is available on both the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
For now, The Korean manufacturer did not respond to the request made by the media to confirm its discovery, but it would be the first time that such a feature would be activated on Galaxy mobile phones, which lacked this capability that can save lives on the road.
