Although we are already with iOS 16 among us, it is from iOS 15 that we can configure our iPhone or Apple Watch so that we notify when we leave an Apple device behind or any membership in which we have an AirTag. A very useful notification to come back for these items instead of noticing their absence later. A notification, in addition, very easy to configure, let’s see how to do it.
The key is in the search app
Since iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, a new option appears in the search application that allows us to activate alerts by distance. The system works both on Apple devices themselves and with AirTags or third-party tags or devices that are compatible with search app. The configuration is very simple, the exact steps are as follows:
- We open the search application on our iPhone or iPad.
- We enter the tab devices you Objects.
- In the section Notice we play in Notify me when I don’t take it with me.
- We activate Notify me when I don’t take it with me
- We press OKAY.
It’s here important to talk about exceptions. In step four, at the bottom, we see the section Notify me, except in: it allows us to indicate the places where we might want to leave our Mac, for example, without being notified. We will usually put our home here, although for some devices, for example the iPhone, which we can locate even when it is turned off, we may want it to always notify us, so that we do not leave the house without the phone. Notifications, in this case, will be displayed on the Apple Watch.
The truth is that it is a very simple and at the same time very powerful system. It is clear that the AirTag can help us find any lost object or the same search network can also help locate the devices, but a prevention system is even better. We now see that the search network has a lot more potential than we could see a few months ago, the notice not to take anything with us is further proof of that.
