Google Maps is much more than a mapping application. Recently the app has renewed its design on Android, but that’s not the only thing that’s changing.
And Google is changing the way one of the most interesting functions of Maps works, the timeline or location history. This history allows us to consult the places that we have visited on a specific day, and so far it can be consulted both on mobile and on the web, but this will change, and we could lose data if we do not take the necessary measures.
Location History is now called Directions and will be saved on the device for privacy.
Google Maps will now store our location history, or our routes, directly on our devices, locally. This is an important change to provide users with greater control over our data, since routes will not be shared with Google’s servers in the cloud unless we want them to.
From now on, We can only consult our Itineraries on our mobile phone, and not on the web.. This change will become effective for all users very soon, all you have to do is wait to receive Google’s notice by email.

Once we receive the email, it means that our account will already make this change, and It is important to follow the steps indicated in the email so as not to lose our location data. In the body of the email we will find a link to the page to configure our preferences on our device. After following the on-screen steps, as explained on the Google support site, the data will be transferred to the device we have chosen.
Google has already started sending this notice to early adopters of Google Maps, and according to the email released by Android Police, users will have until December 1st of this year to be able to modify the configuration and not lose our location history data.
When Google saves our new routes and local format upload history on the mobile, we can also choose to download them to the cloud in our Google database, if we do so, we can still get useful results if we change the mobile and we don’t want to lose it. those data.
